Tama was never happy in the Scarred Wasteland. While decay was part of the cycle of life, he set off in search of a tranquility that was nowhere to be found in the land of his birth. After an extensive spiritual journey, in which he studied under sage dragons in all of the flights, he finally settled in the island of Prufrock, hoping to set up a center to share what he had learned with other dragons.

With the help of some of the clan's residents, he constructed a meditative center near the pools, complete with its own labyrinth, several gardens (some with just rocks and gravel, others with flowers and herbs), several origami sculptures made by the clan's artisans using his designs, and an ever-growing collection of miniature bonsai trees. Tama would really love to have a koi pond, but he has had trouble keeping it stocked. It seems maintaining decorative fish in a clan comprised of mainly seafood eaters might be a pipe dream, but Tama keeps trying nonetheless.

He regularly holds lectures and workshops for the island's dragons and has been working with the healer Hugh to encourage the sedentary scholars to exercise. He also grows herbs for Hugh in his gardens. In addition to physical therapy, Tama works with the psychologist Cita and her patients, using his meditative techniques to aid her therapy sessions.

Tama had always been an insular, self-contained fellow, and he thought he would always be a bachelor - he neither looked for nor particularly desired a mate. When Moanna came strolling through his gardens one day, however, she thoroughly upset his equilibrium. He had always tried to maintain a balanced perspective, free of desire, but the sight of her inflamed his emotions, igniting feelings he thought sealed through a life of meditation. Soon physical attraction was augmented by mental stimulation, for she was quite interested in his pools and had ideas for how to expand upon and improve them. Though he tried to stomp out his feelings through rigorous meditation and ascetic living, he realized that he never felt truly relaxed or complete save for when he was near her. Thankfully she felt similarly about him, so he has done his best to incorporate their relationship into his lifestyle and philosophical outlook.

He initially met Morpheus and Melinoe through Moanna, as his mate and Melinoe shared a love of pools and had decided to work together to maintain both the pools in his garden and the clan's bathing and recreational pools. He was intrigued to learn that the oneiromancers used similar techniques to his meditation to enter and manipulate the dreamscape, and though he doesn't have the same innate skills that they do, he has quite enjoyed sharing ideas with them.
