Biography
ARELI
Treasurer |
|
B I O G R A P H Y
Alas, his dreams were never to come true. Because of his quiet introvertedness, because he didn’t talk to his siblings or his parents much, he was labeled as a rather slow hatchling. His parents tried to connect to him, but eventually decided to admit to themselves that it was no use. Areli seemed to be a lost cause. So, when the light became too much and Areli’s mother wanted to move back to the Scarred Wasteland she’d been born in, it came as a shock to Areli that he was being left behind. His siblings teased him. How could he not have known this until it was too late? Why was he so incompetent and dreamy? He wouldn’t last a minute in Plague, they taunted. He would never be a hero. He couldn’t even be a decent dragon, according to his siblings. He would never amount to anything. His mother traded him to the neighboring clan for a few buckets full of goop, patted him on the head, and then left. Areli never saw her again. His siblings’ comments, and his parents’ actions, festered in his heart. Areli pulled his head out of the clouds and dug his claws firmly into the earth. He batted away all of the clan’s attempts to make him do menial work - which was all they thought he was good for - and instead cozied up to the clan’s treasurer, persuading her to teach him how to manage money. It didn’t come easy to him at first, but fueled by the drive to prove his family wrong, he persevered and eventually managed to learn all the intricacies of finance. By the time he was proficient in that, however, the clan his mother had traded him to was quite tired of keeping him around. After all, they’d been promised a slow dragon who would do any sort of small task, not a petty and overbearing one who constantly sequestered himself in the library. Areli realized he wasn’t wanted. He left that clan without looking back. |

This was easier said than done. Most Light dragons, after all, tend to be sensible with finance and knowledge, and don’t squander money like dragons in Arcane or Wind might. For a time, Areli thought he might have to leave the territory he’d lived his whole life in. But then, one day as the sun rose over the Mirrorlight Promenade and bathed the columns in pale light, he met Cecelia. It’s really no exaggeration to say she changed his life. Areli was immediately fascinated by her description of her clan. A place where no dragon was belittled or treated as a servant? Somewhere dragons respected each other and attempted to bring peace? It sounded like a dream to him, and the long-dormant imagination within him stirred, reminding him once more of the hopes he’d had in his youth of being a guiding beam of light. Eagerly, he offered his only skill to Cecelia and, as luck would have it, her clan was actually in need of a treasurer. Areli had found his first true home. And he’s stayed here ever since. He’s still a rather awkward dragon, not sure about social skills after his past, but he’s eager to learn about new things and does try to see the best in other dragons. He truly loves working with numbers and balancing everything to perfection, gets undeniably flustered whenever dragons compliment him on his work, and believes fiercely in the mission of the clan. He’s proud to help a peaceful group in any way he can. With his skills supporting the Lemon Light Plateau - or so he tells himself - they’ll be able to bring peace all over Sornieth. His younger self would be proud. |
