Biography

Foxfire
The retired soldier of the special force, code name "Will-o'-the-wisp"

Hatchlings whispered amongst themselves as they passed the “sleeping rock”. The pups had nicknamed the rock the “sleeping rock” since a dragon always slept on it during the day. His feathers ruffled with the wind as he slept with his head over his paws. The little dragons continued to whisper amongst themselves as they watched the sleeping Coatl. His sword lay beside him as he slumbered on the rock. They moved closer to take a good look at the dark colored dragon.

“What are you doing?” he asked them without opening his eyes. “Don’t you know it’s rude sneak up on a sleeping dragon?”

A light green eye popped open as the hatchling screamed before running away from him. Foxfire chuckled as he opened both eyes before yawning. He closed them before shaking his head. He preferred nighttime, and his eyes have adjusted to the darker part of time. He had a hard time seeing in the sunlight. The Coatl warrior stretched out by stretching his front paws and placing his back into the air. He heard a crack of stress releasing before sighing in relief.

“Retirement is boring,” he muttered before flopping over onto the rock once again.

Foxfire had managed to start to drift off to sleep once more before a scream awoke him. He sat straight before staring in the direction the scream had originated. His feathers flew up as he heard another scream. It sounded as if the hatchlings were in trouble. He got off the rock in one fluid motion with his sword in his maw as he raced off in the direction of the screams.

The hatchlings cowered next to each other as a group of wolves surrounded them. Adult dragons would have been able to defend themselves against the black furred wolves; hatchlings were a meal for them. A shadow blocked out the sun as Foxfire glided over the hatchlings before landing between them and the wolves. He let out a snarl as the wolves snarled at him. The retired soldier placed himself between the wolves and pups. He would not let them get their young ones.

A wolf pounced from the side as Foxfire’s thick tail barrelled into the wolf causing it to yelp and move backwards from the force of the strike. The Coatl snarled once more as a warning to the pack as he moved to unsheathe the sword that lay at his side. It glinted in the sunlight as the sun’s rays reflected off the sword. It momentarily blinded Foxfire, but his vision returned as the pack pounced.

The hatchlings looked on in amazement and fear as the Coatl fought off the whole pack. Foxfire didn’t take a scratch from them; however, the pack ran off with a few bumps, scratches and bruises. Foxfire had been one of the best special forces soldiers before his retirement for a reason. He watched them run off before shaking his vision clear. The sunlight was hard on his eyes. He looked at the pups before trilling at them.

“It’s okay. You’re safe now.”

Foxfire opened an eye as he heard giggling in front of him. He stared at the hatchlings upside down as he hung his head over the rock. When had nighttime fallen, and why hadn’t he woken up for it? The Coatl supposed it was because he lost some sleep when that pack attacked the hatchlings, not that he was upset about it.

“You look silly,” one of the hatchlings commented. “When you’re hanging upside down, you don’t look nearly as scary.”

“You think I’m scary?” asked Foxfire as he turned right side up before stepping off the rock. “I’m not scary, am I?”

The stripes on the Coatl started glow as the moonlight touched them. He felt at peace in the dark. He circled around the hatchlings before flopping over in the field of flowers that sat below his rock, “Shouldn’t you be sleeping?”

The hatchling that called him scary shook her head as she walked over before sitting in front of him, “We wanted to thank you. The other adults said you liked glowing things, so we found these.”

They placed a few Glow Mushrooms on the ground next to him. Foxfire’s face lit up as he realized they had brought him some of his favorite food. He purred before smiling at the hatchlings.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to get me this. Now, off to bed. Not all of you are night owls like me.”

Gloatls - An unofficial subspecies thought up by Zashara for her own personal use in her lair. Originally this subspecies came about when the dragon called Lanying was obtained followed by Mingyu. That was when the idea for the Nocturnal subspecies Gloatls was born. But I have gotten a little bit more creative while thinking more on the subject...

It happened a couple years ago during the first Night of the Nocturne. Coatls that blended in with the darkness were out wandering the lands in search of Nocturne eggs. These Coatls were attracted to the glowing nightlife and ventured further into the glowing patches of flora and fauna. Some couldn't help themselves but to eat the glowing wonders while others drifted off to sleep.

After eating large amounts of the glowing plants and creatures of the night, their bodies had an odd reaction, one that made their Tertiary Colors change and become vibrant and luminescent as well as taking on an interesting set of markings. Those that had fallen asleep within the flora of the lands woke to discover they too had bright Tertiary Colors and distinct markings. How theirs came about is still a mystery but they believe it has something to do with them becoming one with the plant life, thus taking on the luminescent coloring the flora had given off while they slept.

They are normally seen at night and can be a bit cautious. Their Tertiary Color glows while their Primary and Secondary Colors tend to hide them in the darkness. This subspecies tend to be XXY, but may vary and can be from any Flight. Their Genes are always Iridescent, Shimmer and Thylacine or now they have been found to have Runes. The Primary and Secondary Colors range from Oilslick to Shadow, leaving the Tertiary Color to be anything other then Charcoal to Shadow. But, the brighter the better!

These coatls like anything having to deal with night, including their favorite Holiday, Night of the Nocturne. They absolutely love anything that glows. If it does not they tend to find it boring and not very exciting. Their favorite foods are the Glow Star and the Glowslug.
