A being of a terrifying power, the "Lord of Winter", or Seal, is an Archmage and Healer of the clan of Gemstones. While he does have exceptional healing ability and is the only healer that goes out on to the battlefield along with his assassin partner Pandora, his power as an ice mage is what makes him one of the most feared members of the Gemstone clan. His magic prowess is rumored to rival even the deity of the Southern IceField, the Icewarden. The pearlcatcher's magic overflows outside of his own internally kept store of magic, causing the magic to swirl around him like a dust storm. As well, he harbors a large amount of Gemstone magic, so the added glimmering effect from the gemstone magic alongside his own elemental magic makes him seem like a white shine often seen on the tundra when the sun rises. Even a gaze of his magic can cause frostbite, leading many dragons besides those baring the Crystal gene to stay away from him, as any ailments relating to the cold seemingly do not affect those with that gene. When wondering why such a powerful ice-aligned dragon joined such an odd light-aligned clan, it can be said that he joined simply because most of its members resist the chilling effects of his magic. However, this is not exactly the case.

While on a journey across the flight territories, Seal was drawn to a distant shimmering bright light, to which he quickly it made his new destination. Upon arriving, he almost instantly dove into researching the strange magic that surrounds the clan, which many named after the clan itself: Gemstone magic. The normally isolated clan was not very friendly towards foreigners at the time, so Seal had quite the difficulty getting the members to open their hearts to him. However, there was once a dragon who took a personal interest in him; the dragon being Layda, the "Riddling Samurai". She took to taking care of his basic needs and even provided him a place in her lair (which was a small house near the edge of the village that surrounded the Gemstone Palace, looking similar to an old, Japanese-styled villa). The Lord of Winter fascinated the female imperial, though she had not known exactly why. She took it as a sign that the pearlcatcher was her soulmate and soon began her attempts to get closer to him. Pearlcatchers and imperials normally do not get along, one of the reasonings’ why the clan originally only had skydancer and imperial inhabitants. She was going to try to break past that barrier to get into his heart. Seal, being mostly occupied with researching and exploring the wonders of the Gemstone clan and its magic, had not realized that Layda fell for him. He mostly took her affectionate gestures as a sign that he was getting closer to having the clan accept his temporary presence among them. Seal was excited by the fact that he was getting closer to his goal, though Layda found herself farther from catching the male's attention.

For the short span of weeks that his stay was supposed to last, she tried everything she could to get him to recognize her love for him. Layda, who could not speak normally due to a running curse in her family, wrote songs that were to warm the cold heart of the pearlcatcher. Her voice was like a gentle whisper upon the wind, catching the ears of every member in the clan. They were curious about her strange behavior, but where nevertheless allured by the samurai. Layda’s songs also drew Seal, though he thought that it was a part of Gemstone culture. When her attempts to lure him through her riddling tunes failed, she turned to teach him about the history and culture of the clan. This helped immensely with the pearlcatcher's research, and he ended up spending most of his time with the imperial as a result. Layda enjoyed every moment she had with the Lord of Winter, while Seal learned little by little how much the Riddling Samurai truly loved him. He grew closer to her and soon began having an odd feeling whenever he was with the imperial. Seal found it difficult to look straight at her without blushing (blushes are very prominent on his face due to his light-scale color, even if most of it is hidden behind his headpiece), so he often took to gazing at the decorations on her wings as a distraction whenever with the female. The rest of the clan soon took notice of the two flirting dragons, which caused several different reactions. As it was a tradition for the clan to assign permanent mates to members, many of Layda's peers took offense to this, as Seal was not a member of the clan nor was it appropriate to fall for one other than their assigned mate. However, Layda did not have a mate at the time- so the general, Arwyn, pushed away those that despised the pair. She stated that she would allow the pair to become official mates, but only if Seal would agree to become a full member of the Gemstone clan. Seal pondered this for almost a day, but he eventually agreed and joined the clan as a healer and a mate to Layda. When the samurai found out about his decision, she sang a blissful song that portrayed her joy and love for the pearlcatcher. In time, the other members of the clan accepted him and he even attracted the attention of another curious imperial.

In current times, Seal and Layda worked together in bringing out the culture and wonder of the clan to other wanderers and travelers who came to the Gemstone clan territory. The once-introverted clan opened up its heart to the outside; and as it did the Lord of Winter, the light of the Gemstone clan lead many curious beings, both dragon, and beast, towards the boundaries of the territory. A few months after Seal's acceptance into the clan, Layda bore the first nest of the pair, of which had only a single egg.
