In the night, I hear them talk the coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, she lost her soul

Magsys was a cheerful young dragon. From a young age, dragons around her said that she had her head in the clouds. But she disagreed. Her head was in the stars. As a hatchling, she witnessed a comet streak past the sky. The bright flash of light caught her attention and from that day forward, she was obsessed with space.

Born of the Ice Flight, the thought of space seemed silly. Magsys, however, kept devouring all space knowledge she could get her claws on. She would watch the skies for other clan dragons and pester them for information. Until finally she heard of a clan who had begun the odyssey among the stars. Magsys ran away from home and slowly but surely made her way to the Crystalspine Reaches where the ship was docked.

She stowed away on the SS Cometary before they took off, but was found within a few days of being onboard. Gwenyth was all for taking her home but a Guardian named Dynamite intervened. He said that she would run away again and maybe straight into to danger the next attempt. He persuaded Gwenyth to allow her to be the ship's navigator.

Magsys was in heaven. Her pearl now contained the memories of stars and supernovas, tracing maps through distant galaxies. It was everything she dreamed of as a hatchling.

She likes Dynamite though he tends to irritate Magsys as many of his inventions tend to teleport the ship when they blow up, messing up her star maps. She respected and even adored Gwyneth and Mortarion for allowing her to stay on the ship she now loves so much. That changed.

Run! I'll hold it off!

~The Incident~

When one of Dynamite's invention exploded, the results were catastrophic, the SS Cometary was transported near a pocket of Shade. Too close. The Shade attacked, planning to devour the arcane magic powering the ship. Desperate, Magsys fought back, eventually sealing off herself in part of the ship with the Shade.

What went on inside the seal, she refuses to say. Her scales cracked, allowing magic to flow up to the surface. Dynamite and Quena worked for hours to save her life. Eventually they stabilized the wild magic but at there was a price. The trauma of the Shade had broken the once exuberant Pearlcatcher. Magsys withdrew into herself, becoming cold and silent. She stares out into the stars or down at her pearl, rarely acknowledging others. The Magsys they used to know was gone.

Eventually with the help of Sonchus, Dynamite brought some semblance of life back into Magsys. She still works as the navigator which seems to be the only thing keeping her grounded some days. Most dragons on board the ship refer to the Shade attack as The Incident to avoid upsetting Magsys or Dynamite.

Broken by magic, you will never be whole, but your scars are nothing to the wounds of your soul.
