He doesn't like the Wartoads, but Wartoads sure like him! If so much as flaps a wing in the Mire, the ground begins to shake as they begin hopping over from miles around. (He also might accidentally cause a hurricane in the Reedcleft Ascent, since when Faes flap their wings in the Starfall Isles, weird things happen, but that's a story for another day.)

They don't seem to mean him any harm, but he doesn't enjoy being thoroughly licked. His best friend spends a great deal of time beating them off him with a lute. Yes, a lute.

Occasionally, Ninereeds looks out across the night sky and wonders if there's something about this particular patch of Sornieth that induces silliness. (Then he glances over at Gabriel, who's grim enough for the rest of us twenty times over, and decides that a little levity isn't so bad after all.)

Zach is one of the few Faes in our clan who actually lives in a nest made of tree sap. If it's not getting knocked out of the air by an errant pumpkin during one of Valdere's trebuchet tests, it's being mistaken by the notoriously nearsighted Lucid for a beehive. Perhaps he ought to move, but it's the only place he feels safe from those Wartoads... aside from when he's with York. Aww.

Speaking of York, ever see a Guardian intercept a flying pumpkin at 1000 yards?
