Biography
BERUKA MINDWHISPER
The Telepathic Stockpiler
Beruka grew up among loose-knit nomads; she hatched in Dragonhome but roamed the northern hemisphere with her ever-changing clanmates. She was young when her abilities manifested. The Wildclaw discovered she could reach out to others' minds and communicate with them in thought. At first she was delighted (aloud she tended to stutter, but didn't have such an impediment mentally). Her excitement soured when her clanmates found out.
They became wary when dealing with her, mistakenly believing that she could read all of their thoughts and not just those they wished to communicate back. When she tried to explain that her powers didn't work that way, they didn't believe her, thinking she was trying to deceive them. Eventually their mistrust grew into outright hostility. At the border of Shadow and Light Beruka was violently driven away from the clan. She still limps to this day.
There she met another Wildclaw, Areone. Seeing that she was in a bad way he offered her aid, assisting her to the sprawling lair he usually hung around. For a few years Beruka lived alone on its outskirts, fending for herself and avoiding others for fear they'd reject her. She saw Areone several more times; sometimes he just wanted to visit- he seemed almost as friendless as she- but other times he came to her in need of help, as he was apparently stuck doing some sort of dangerous, illegal work. The two got along as best they could, but between the rumors surrounding Beruka and thugs shadowing Areone they never felt safe.
Eventually things became unbearable. Beruka's old clan reappeared and was likely to gossip. She felt it was only a matter of time before the local can forced her out. Together with Areone she quietly fled the border and headed north, never looking back. The two of them met and hired a mercenary, Chiaroscuro, to protect them (neither Wildclaw could fight very well). Now living at the Diabase Demesne, Beruka is entrusted with the task of maintaining the lair's water cisterns and food supplies. Word once again got out about her abilities, but what with knowing multiple cyborgs and an oracular statue, it was taken well.
Beruka is very withdrawn, but generally polite and friendly when approached. She speaks softly much of the time, but readily raises her voice when annoyed. When crossed or riled up, iron-willed Beruka becomes stern and unrelenting. She prefers mental communication whenever possible, and because she can reach out to more than one mind at once she often ends up holding conversations with dragons on different sides of the lair (all of whom can hear each other when connected in this manner), although if they're too far off she gets a headache.
She hates puns, unless they're especially subtle or clever (or hers).
