Swept Away From Home

The Pearlcatcher awoke in a strange new den in a dark new land. Pulled from the waters of the Driftwood Drag, he found a new home and family in the Liberi Obscurae. Raised as one of their own by Matriarchs Onyx and Lux, he flourished within the clan. Following his mother on expeditions, he was quick to learn magic for both combat and healing, and even quicker to find himself enamored with the world around him. With a hunger for knowledge and a passion for archaeology, the only thing that could stop him was poor health.

A Curse Borne

Plagued by frequent illness that seemed to grow worse in the darkness of the Tangled Wood, Jericho was oft confined in his quarters when he wasn't out on expeditions. A sickness that would not relent, symptoms only allayed by travel into brighter areas, the dragon would spend as much time as he could out. It wasn't until a pair of Imperials, an old traveling mage and a young warrior of the light, was welcomed into the clan that a cause for his ailments could be found. A curse, identified by the mage Algae as one usually only inflicted on those who were foolish enough to venture into the cursed lands of the Hewn City.

Shade Sickness, he had heard it been called in his travels. While most foolish to venture into the darker areas amongst the skeletal ruins were never seen again, those that were lucky enough (or perhaps allowed) to emerge were often changed. Touched by the Shade itself, some would say, they were dragons cursed to forever battle against an enemy that lurked within. It could easily fester in the darkness of the Tangled Woods, or anywhere dark enough.
