Biography

Kyuu
Kyo - Donut Hole

Kyuu_Icon.png Kyuu is Maple's son, and the tattoo artist of the Library. He takes more after his mother than his father, and attests violence of any kind. His eyes are entirely white and extremely light sensitive, and so he prefers to wear a blindfold whenever he isn't working.

He is soft and kind, and always has a gentle smile on his face. His strange, dark/pastel appearance surprises many of the Visitors, but he takes it in stride. Even when creating his beautiful tattoos he has an unnaturally light and gentle touch. His father doesn't approve of his nature, but the two don't talk much nowadays.

When Kyuu was very young, he rescued a demon and they eventually fell in love. Unfortunately they did not end well, and Kyuu became demon-touched, his pastel feathers stained with an inky darkness and his eyes altered forever. Surprisingly he doesn't hate the demon for it, and even speaks of him fondly. Bittersweet, Avekir's son courted him for a long time and they had a son together, Treven, but Bittersweet vanished when Lheva took control.

"I don't blame him for what he's done. I only blame myself for not seeing his pain sooner."

I can no longer remember your name.

I can remember the taste of it on my tongue, the way it sounded spoken softly into the air. Like a promise whispered between only us two. You told me you only shared your name with those you trusted beyond a doubt.

You said those words with such warmth.

I remember the night I found you. It was back when we lived among the Wind, on a moonless night. Our Clan was so small back then, but you were smaller, curled up among the grasses at the edge of the cliff. You were so small, a completely black Coatl with strange colorless eyes, as if you had been abandoned by your own God. And of course I felt pity for you, as I was still a young Coatl myself, barely a teenager. So I took you home and fed you, and nursed you back to health.

I was the only one who would've.

My father, immediately after discovering your existence, wanted you dropped off the cliff and into the raging waters. You weren't natural, he said. And I suppose he was right. No Flightless dragon should ever exist, and yet there you were.

Erebos wanted to give you a chance.

So there you stayed, with me. We had a cavern all to ourselves, and our relationship grew. And I asked you
so many questions that I no longer know the answers to.

You had grown from a tiny Coatl into a full-fledged adult when you told me the truth. You were a demon who had accidentally wandered into the living world. You seemed so anxious when I told you, glancing from the door to myself. I had smiled and told you that I didn't care- that you were a kind dragon, and that I trusted you with my life. Your grin radiated light into our cave, and we were so, so happy.

We grew closer than I thought possible, learning about each other as intimately as anyone ever could.

But then, you began to grow distant. You would wander off during the day, as I practiced for my apprenticeship. Your strange eyes grew colder and colder, and I became more and more worried for your well being.

So one day, I followed you. I'm sure you knew I was there. I followed you well past the outskirts of our Clan. It wasn't long before you stopped, and I scurried behind a convenient rock. There were two other dragons with you, a colorless Imperial, and a strange sickly Wildclaw. I listened to you talk, discussing your plans on taking over the Flights.

With each word my eyes grew wider and wider, and once the other dragons had left, all I could do was sit there in shock.

And then you spoke.

"Kyuu, come out from behind that rock," You said, your back still turned away from me. I did as you asked, still innocently trusting you. You were my best friend- and even more. You were my everything.

"Why?" I finally asked.

You finally turned. "You are blind to any evil. A demon cannot change their ways- this is the path I was always meant to be on." There, your eyes softened partially. "I'm sorry."

I said your name then, stepping forward to try and touch you, to bring you back to me. "I know you aren't evil," I said. "I've seen you. This isn't you."

"It is!" You shouted, lashing out. Black magic spilled over, engulfing us both in a tar-like substance. I had screamed as the magic made its way into my fur, into my eyes. Through a haze of poison, I saw you hurriedly try and wave the magic off, regret filling your eyes as you saw me. You reached out for a moment, before shaking your head and rushing off.

But I know I saw that tear fall.

It took awhile for the healers to find me. They managed to clear away the magic, to bring me back to health. But my previously pastel colors were darkened, magic staining my feathers and fur, the dark colors the same as yours. And my previously Wind eyes were now the same as yours. Did light always hurt your eyes so much? Was sitting out in the sunlight really that painful for you? Why did you never tell me?

During that time, Bittersweet was the one who approached me, quietly offering companionship. He was so different than you. He fell in love with me. I think I love him too, but it is so hard to tell nowadays. We have a son, Treven. A family of artists.

And yet, despite all that, I would throw it all away just to see you again, to remember your name.

Hellbender chuckles at seeing the pale Coatl and says, "Since you can't see me, I'm just gonna go ahead and tell you that I'm rolling my eyes at how unimaginably bad you look. Maybe you should try taking off that blindfold before you choose your outfits in the morning."

Cupcake circles around Kyuu, fascinated by his lacy tattoos. "Incredible! Your ink work is so fine and detailed. And the beautiful layers of your wings are splendid." Lowering her voice at the risk of offending the newcomer she continues, "I hope that your blindfold is merely for aesthetics so that you can see how beautiful you are. And if it isn't, then let me tell you now that you are magnificent."
