Years ago, when he was still a young academic in the Starfall Isles, Anjut's pearl was stolen by an unknown thief. Not one to be troubled by such things, he quickly adopted a strange sentient comet as his surrogate pearl and never looked back. This has made him a pariah among pearlcatchers, and Anjut has retaliated by outright refusing to speak with any of his own breed who so much as look at him funny. Given that he now lives in the Sunbeam Ruins, the ancestral home of the pearlcatcher, this can make life difficult, not only for him but also for just about everyone around him. But for Anjut, these are only small annoyances that can be easily ignored in pursuit of his craft.

Anjut came to Clan Lamprey in order to study the unique magical spirits that reside in the Hewn City. Specifically, he wants to learn to harness them to create intelligent constructs like Octagon. He's had one dubious success so far, but his creation, Legion, wants little to do with him and wandered off at the first opportunity to do who knows what. Anjut doesn't really care what his creation gets up to so long as he can keep publishing academic papers about it, but the rest of Clan Lamprey is becoming increasingly concerned about how safe his work is. They've put up with Anjut until now because he (mostly) pays his rent on time, but it is becoming quite clear that he is playing with fire. If Legion ends up being a problem, he'll likely find himself looking for a new home. At least he doesn't seem to be interested in making more of them. For now.
