Anthy knows three things, above all else:

She knows that the best way to hide is in plain sight. (There is a dark room with stars painted on the ceiling, wide and clean and sparse. There is a dark room with flowers painted on the walls, cluttered and comfortable. There is someone who wants to keep her. There is someone who wants to save her. It is all the same, all the same. She draws arcane magic like blood from the depths of her heart and makes a veil over her eyes so they will not see the rot inside her: she is already dead, long long gone.)

She knows it’s a lie that time heals all; time brings only numbness, only scarring. (There is a face that she used to love and she feels nothing. There is a face she ought to love, and she feels nothing. There is power thrumming inside her body, burning through her veins, stabbing its blades in between the plates of her scales and she could let it out, let it consume them all in a flash of beautiful horrible light and she wouldn’t have to bear any of this any longer, but what would be the point? It has been years. She feels nothing.)

Anthy knows the power of leaving. (There is light filtering into a dark room. The door is open. She opened it herself.)
