"You think she's awake?"

Where am I?....

Mira woke up in cold sweat. "Great, another nightmare. Those voices again..."- She muttered under her breath as she stepped towards the window. Her house used to feel lonely, but not anymore ever since those voices started haunting her dreams. She was looking at the stars in an attempt to distract herself from her thoughts when she saw something..no..someone sitting on the highest peak of the citadel. The stranger started rummaging through a huge bag that was set beside them and pulled out... a telescope? Mira kept her gaze fixed on the other dragon for a while, eyes full of curiosity, until she fell asleep. The moment she woke up, the imperial wasn't there anymore.



The next morning, Mira kept thinking about the strange dragon- "I must see them again. They will show up soon, I feel it". Her thoughts circled inside her mind like a tornado. The imperial didn't look dangerous, nor seemed like they had bad intent, yet, a part of her insisted that she should remain cautious.

Mira went through the rest of her day as normal. She went to the local magic academy, practiced spells, and studied several guides on advanced magic techniques; yet, that cursed thought was always in the back of her mind, disrupting her focus every once in a while. She needed answers...no...she craved answers.

She asked the locals but nobody knew the identity of the strange dragon, only a few swore they saw them, telescope in hand just as she saw the night before. The last hours of daytime were announced by the setting sun, and Mira returned to her home, claws empty without a single clue, completely defeated. She averted her eyes towards the stars, a nervous expression on her face.

"I'll have to find it out by myself"

Mira waited until midnight and when the time came, she looked through the window. On top of the same peak, she found them.



Mira's heart was brimming with excitement. The answer she needed was before her eyes. Now, she only had to do what she had to do. Mira took a deep breath, and with all the courage she could muster, she took to the sky, making sure to hide among to clouds so she wouldn't be spotted. The night was at a complete standstill, with no living beings making a sound nearby. Only the wind whistled inside her ears and the biting cold made flying a great endeavor.

After a long, tiresome flight, Mira landed somewhere behind the strange dragon and took a closer look at them. She was a huge female imperial of regal appearance, scales as dark as the night with several splotches of purple, antlers gleaming under the moonlight. Suddenly, she opened her wings and perked up her ears.

"Who's there?" - From her shaky voice, Mira could tell the stranger meant no harm. She could tell that her presence startled her. Mira knew she had to apologize.

"S- sorry if I startled you. Are you... looking at the stars?" - Mira moved somewhere where the imperial could see her, head low and wings tucked in close to her body pretending to appear as small and inoffensive as possible.

"How did you get here and why didn't I see you coming?"

"It's a long story..."



Her name was Virgo. That imperial is always awake at night, stargazing, or so she says. Mira started visiting her for comfort every time she woke up from her nightmares.

"Another nightmare?"- Said Virgo without averting her gaze from her telescope.
"You guessed"- Mira sighed. Virgo patted Mira's shoulder with her wing and the pearlcatcher turned her head to look at the other dragon. "It's always that nightmare. The strange figures, the voices, the gruesome imagery... I remember it so clearly"- Mira's voice cracks a little as she tries to keep herself from sobbing. "And there is this part... I start getting a twitchy feeling and as soon as I open up my eyes again to look at myself I see my claws twist into distorted shapes, and my scales get turned inside out, as loud static noise floods my ears and I lose consciousness. Then, I wake up again and they're there, staring at me, judging me. What could this mean? I just want it to stop".

Virgo stared at her friend "You think it's a premonition?"
"A premonition?" - Mira questioned.
The imperial nodded. "Call me superstitious, but that can't mean no good."- Says Virgo while she turns around and rummages through her bag. She grabs a newspaper and opens it on a page that Mira doesn't particularly like. "You've heard the stories"-Virgo points to several newspaper headlines- "Honorary denizen of Lone Spire goes rogue and disappears, Withered Prairie under threat of attack: why are dragons becoming aggressive? and many others".
"It can't be. No such thing as a premonition exists."- Mira puts on a serious face- "It's getting late, I should leave. See you tomorrow Virgo."
