"The Small One"
(Mercury, the Wanderer) Timid/Scatterbrained/Unsure "Abnormally small," the adults muttered, crowding around him. "Positively tiny compared to his sisters." Mercury squinted up at the silhouetted figures above him, blinded by the bright sunlight of the Reedcleft. He knew they were talking about him, and he was ashamed. But he did not know what he had done wrong. Frightened and confused, Mercury stumbled away from his sleeping parents that night, untangling himself from his mother's gentle embrace. He only wanted to explore for a moment - he wanted to learn why the other dragons of the clan had spoken of him in such hushed voices, glancing at him when they thought he wouldn't see. But he was soon lost in the dense reeds, and his parents never heard him call for help. No one from his birth clan has seen him since that night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mercury ran desperately through the reeds, he could've sworn that he had come this way! Daylight had long since broken and he was utterly, hopelessly lost. Several days later, dehydrated and starving he finally found another dragon, a hatchling like himself, an imperial who introduced himself as Nuno. ~~~ "Oh? Who might you be?" "W-water, need water..." "Here, I brought some with me." "Thank you. I've been wondering for what feels like forever, I don't even know where I am anymore...." "Well you're still in the Reedcliff Ascent at least. Come, why don't you follow me back to my clan? Just let me gather up these fabrics I found..." ~~~ After arriving at Nuno's clan, he was immediately greeted by so many different faces, in fact he felt a little overwhelmed by all the different eyes staring at him. Mercury flinched away from their gaze, not wanting to feel the shame he felt at home. Desperate to collect his thoughts, Mercury found his way into the back of the strange and colorful lair, new smells assaulting his nose at every turn, he couldn't name most of them. Finally the lair became quieter, more secluded as the population of dragons dwindled. Suddenly his ears twitched as a song carried through the air. It was faint, carried on the wind, and he couldn't help but walk towards the source.
