The third child of the late Queen Xandra, a ruthless conqueror who brought dragons and beastclans alike under her rule by force. Xandra wielded huge military power throughout all eleven regions, and slavery was the most common fate for those who fell prey to her armies. Venetia, however, knew her only as a doting mother who would do anything for her children. For as long as she can remember, she has been given everything she could possibly want. The finest food, the most beautiful jewelry, rare books on whatever type of magic was catching her interest that month - all would be granted to her. But as Venetia reached adolescence, her sheltered life began to feel stifling. It became clear that others treated her well because of her mother, not because they particularly liked her or respected her. As soon as she was able, she struck out for a distant clan unaffiliated with the Court. She hopes to make her mark here, far outside her mother's shadow. Haughty and cold, Venetia uses her words as weapons. She has a mean sarcastic streak and enjoys watching the fallout from her cruelty. So far, she has opted to keep her parentage a secret from Clan Lamprey, as that would defeat the entire point of striking out on her own. No one in the clan has any idea why she's come here; only that she is obviously from some kind of powerful family, and that her typical response to being told to do anything is complete verbal annihilation of the poor fool who dared suggest she work for her meals. The only reason she hasn't been shown the door is the fear that she will cry to her obscenely wealthy parents if anyone is overtly cruel to her. Tylis fears that the clan's reputation would be in jeopardy. He is blissfully ignorant of the real danger looming over all their heads. When she's feeling "generous", Venetia will occasionally contribute fine embroidery and magical runework of her own making to the clan's available merchandise. Truthfully, this is a ploy to land herself on the clan's roster of traveling merchants and really see the world from the worm's eye view. |
