Kiefer has not touched the ground since he was two days old. No one really notices, actually, between all the flurry of Spiral movement and the multitude of other things to pay attention to - but if they do, he tells them that it's because there are so many better places to land. Tree branches, for one, bend below your weight and then spring you back up to the sky, as if they know that's where you belong. Other dragons' shoulders, because everyone's at least a little fond of the little guy, and don't mind him staying for a little while. Rocks, and towers, and so many, many other places if he needs to rest his wings.

He hasn't told anyone the real reason. He's been having dreams - nightmares - about being swallowed up by the earth since he can remember; he knows it's an irrational fear, so he hasn't tried to explain it to anyone. It's much more fun to stay in flight anyway.
