In the winter months, squalls blow hard and often northward from the frigid south, and the pirates that dwell within the great halls of stone and ice hunker down amongst the tavern's lanterns, pull their drinks a little closer and roll the knucklebones again, waiting for the foul winds and seas to calm.

No, the day that Lirim arrived was in no way unusual, save that he arrived amidst it; battered, half blinded by the ice sleet that the squall had deiged to put to wing alongside him, but more or less whole by all accounts.
