KOHDA

This Guardian has obviously seen many battles in his life, tattered wings and numerous scars spread all over his body. Whether you consider those as badges of honour or marks of failure, Kohda is indifferent to those reactions. He considers them neither good nor bad; it's simply something he amassed through his life.

Many are intimidated by his appearance at first, but as they talk to him realize that he's in fact a very gentle, soft spoken Guardian that actually frowns on the use of violence. He sees anger as being just as unproductive, avoiding it in favour to trying to understand just why someone acted the way they did. His grasp of draconic language is shaky, plagued with pauses and blunt language that comes off as uncharacteristic of his otherwise helpful nature. A bit too helpful. Kohda requires reminders that he is in fact, not required to do everything someone asks of him, leading him to being taken advantage of if someone isn’t there to stop him.

History

He spent his early life as a slave to a band of Longnecks in the Southern Icefield, being declawed and having his wings mutilated as a young hatchling to prevent him from escaping. He was no more than a beast and was treated as such. As he grew it became harder and harder to control him, until it was simply not worth the trouble anymore and he was abandoned, locked into a cage and left in the raging snowstorm. No amount of scratching and biting and flailing seemed to work to break his prison. After hours of fighting he collapsed, accepting the fact he'd die in here, and closed his eyes for the final time.

But, later he woke up. He was inside a tent, with a nice warm campfire in the middle and a small group of Longnecks he never saw before. Naturally, he reacted in rage, afraid to yet again fall in chains. The group scatted to avoid injury, but remained not all that far from the weakened dragon. As he calmed down from the initial shock, they attempted to approach him only to be met with further growling. As talking to him didn’t seem to work, they decided to leave some food for him and go on their way. After a few hours of walking they noticed Kohda had been following them, and again tried to approach him, being meet with resistance to touch once more. They concluded that whatever this dragon’s past was, it was necessary for them to show him kindness so he could free himself from fear.

Kohda continued to be fed by them, leaving food for him in a bowl away from the others so he could eat peacefully. They went so far as to leave a tent unoccupied so he could use it if he wished to, while the Longneck group huddled up in their spare one. Outside this, nobody approached him, leaving to Kohda the decision when and if he’d want to engage with them further. Slowly but surely, he started to get more involved with them, which filled the Longnecks with immense joy. They began teaching him how to speak, how to be kind, and by what code they lived. However, as he learned all they had to offer, the dragon began to crave a different life than that of a merchant. As he shared his desire with his small friends, they wholeheartedly approved of his choice, wishing him good luck as Kohda left his family to travel elsewhere, helping those he found in need of assistance.
