Biography
Luna
Shadow || Witch Means: "moon", Latin Hoards: Special Apparel: |
History:
Bugs, mice, birds, fish, antelope, leaves... all things dragons eat. And all things Luna does not. Being in such attunement with the universe and the earth, she is the only dragon in her clan and she suspects in all of Sornieth who does not have to eat anything or drink anything to survive. She is a classic witch, who works with symbols, nature spells, magic mushrooms, stars, spiders and various alchemical reactions to produce her magic. She came to the clan early in its creation and hasn't seemed to age since. Luna, though she seems old and wise, and is in fact an older dragon, is quite young at heart. She makes unbearable jokes, ranging from those with little humor in them at all (to which she still laughs hysterically) to puns (always the worst puns) to phrases that she'll just say and then pause and ponder and then start to giggle because she thinks it's funny somehow. She's followed around by a parade of field mice and centipedes, revolting most of the clan and making the rest roll their eyes, and she goes out of her cave every night to capture fireflies and try to release them somewhere else where the clan's insect-lovers won't eat them. When she isn't out joking or making friends with squirrels and bears, Luna is in her cave concocting some cure for some disease, trying to tell the fortune of a dragon who requested it and has faith in her abilities no matter how many doubtful looks they throw at the bones and flower garlands hung and strewn around her home, or she's up in a tree throwing rocks at the ground to guess the weather (and yes, as you might imagine, this results in far too many injuries that it should). "One, two, three, four, have a tuber, have two more," chanted the little dragon, busying herself around the great black cauldron. "Five, six, seven, eight, have half a loaf that Corvinne ate-"
Outside the cave, the glittering Imperial heard her name in the enchantment and sighed. She let down the basket she was carrying and poked her head into the silky, spiderwebbed Pearlcatcher's cave. "Luna," she called sweetly, "Luna, love, come here."
The Pearlcatcher raised her head swiftly, comically, like a deer suddenly alerted to the presence of a stranger. A broad grin split her face, hardly visible beneath the large floppy wizard's hat, and she tossed aside the poison ivy she was about to throw into the cauldron to race to the cave entrance. "Hello Corvy," she said, hugging the Imperial's massive, muddy leg. "What brings you all the way out here? Just to see me? That's so nice of you!"
"I was just-" The Imperial hesitated. "Yes, Luna, I came out here to see you," she amended hastily, kicking her basket into the woods. The Pearlcatcher glanced after it in concern. "I had a question to ask you," she said, drawing the dragoness's attention back. "I wanted to know who my mate will be. And when, you know, he'll actually show up."
The Pearlcatcher giggled. "Oh you know men, they'll show up whenever they want and then ask to be forgiven for being late when they didn't even know if they were expected in the first place. I can't predict things that are so fickle, Corvy, you know that- but I can try again, I suppose. Come, come." And with that, she bustled back into her cave, which was definitely too small for the Imperial dragoness.
The Imperial sighed again, looked longingly after her discarded basket, then just laughed softly to herself and squeezed her long body into the tiny cave.
