Asil Meets Past wrote:
Not many dragons made long journeys as hatchlings, but Past wasn't the most normal of dragons. He wanted to be like the travelers in the books he read, to scale mountains and fly over great plains. But the world outside wasn't quite as simple as the books made it out to be, and in a short time, he was lost. He had wandered beyond the land of the Arcane... far, far beyond it. The night was bright here, the grass glowing a gentle yellow, and in the distance, he could see glowing figures: plants, perhaps, or maybe statues.
He shivered. His mind wandered to Toxie, his friend back home, and he felt the sudden impulse to cry.
"Who goes there!?" a booming voice said from behind him. He jumped, skittering forward, wrapping his body around his pearl protectively. In front of him was a large nocturne, glittering in the moonlight. Every one of his scales was a shimmering gold.
"Hey, I'm just kiddin'," the dragon continued. "You're not from around here."
"I... I'm Past. I'm a bit.. lost. I'm sorry."
"No, no, don't be sorry. I'm Asil. Where ya from?"
Past thought about it. "I'm not exactly sure. My clan lives in the Arcane."
"Wow, how did you get here?" Asil asked, clearly surprised. "You must have had quite the journey."
Past smiled shyly. "Yeah. Do you have.. food?"
"Food! Of course we have food." Asil curled his tail around Past in a friendly manner. "Tell me, have you ever seen the circus?"
"The what?"
"The circus. That's where you are. The Circus of the Dawn. Oh, you'll love it."
"Oh, but.. I need to get home."
The grin on Asil's maw grew wider. "Don't you worry, sport. Come eat and rest up and see the show, and I'll fly you back to the Arcane before anyone realizes you're gone." It wasn't the best logic, seeing as Past had been gone for quite a while and they'd surely noticed his absence, but the offer was too good to resist.
"Yes, please."
"C'mon, then." A loud boom split the night, and Past jumped. "Don't worry," said Asil, "it's just the fireworks! C'mon, don't wanna miss 'em."
The two dragons made off towards the colorful sky. Past wasn't sure what exactly the circus was, but he knew he was in for a treat, and when he woke up the next morning, he'd find himself in his bed in the Arcane with tons of new stories to tell Toxie.
