I grew up in a common clan. There was nothing interesting much about it. There were many clans like ours, clans that did not care about making a name for themselves, clans that did not care for fighting or serving anyone. A clan that would produce beautiful and handsome dragons, who would either stay or go on to their own clans to do the same. I was different. My mother was a part of the clan, and she was hardly a mother to me. It was clan tradition for eggs to be raised together, with the parents barely having any input in our lives. I disagreed with this philosophy, but could not change the ways of my clanmates, so I set out alone. Travellers would tell stories to clans in exchange for a place to sleep each night. They shared awe-inspiring regalias with us, and they filled me with a sense of adventure and curiosity. I set out to explore my environment. I cared not for the opportunities given to me by my own clan, and instead would prefer to start my own.
|
I didn’t know who my father was, and that became my first goal. In order to know myself I must know where I came from. All I knew about my father was that he was a travelling soldier, and that his eyes were as dark as a stormy night. I asked around if others had known him, and I was able to build a general picture of what he looked and acted like. He was an imperial, a large one even for them. His wings were the color of blood and his scales were the color of night. Sharp spines arose from his back, the color of dawn. He was fierce, brave and challenging, but he was caring and loyal as well. I built up an image of him, and I wanted to find him, to know him. I eventually came across the clan he had been a part of from his birth.
Their home was a long way from where I had started, but I travelled there. The dragons of the clan pointed me towards and old guardian, who told me that he was and record keeper, and he remembered all the dragons that had been exalted from the clan. He told me of my father, how he was exalted at a young age, as soon as he was old and strong enough. He also told me that I would never be able to find him. Back then I knew not why, but now I know that serving a deity is a dangerous business, and that he had perished in his duty.

I did not linger long on the new information. I returned to my homeland, the burning waste that it was, but I didn’t return to my home, no I searched around. Eventually, I came across a small group of dragons who, perhaps were more aggressive than I hoped. Regardless, they intrigued me, especially how, unorganised, they were. The mirror in charge of the place was doing her hardest, but if they wanted more members they were going to need a bit more assistance. So I stepped in. And apparently I made a pretty good leader.
We overcame much hardship, our little band of warriors. We’ve lost as many as we gained, but eventually our numbers began to steadily increase, and many of our numbers were left without purpose. Our clans most senior members and I tried to come up with an idea, and eventually, an idea I had. The Flamecaller would accept dragons into her service and they would serve her however they could. Many of our dragons had learned necessary skills from their parents and the others, so I began sending them off to work for their God. All together, it was a good idea, and it solved our problems. Things ran smoothly from then on out. |
Now, I still rule over the clan, though with much help these days. I still make decisions about who stays here and who goes on to serve our God. Though, some others leave us to travel and stay in other clans, eager to learn more. Though I still reject the notion of my old clan, greatly holding family close to my heart. THough I don’t have much family of my own, I consider every dragonling that hatches into our clan a part of my family. |
Vatra's personality is a fiery as his looks. He is much of a figurehead of our clan, and doesn't’ perform any legitimate role for us, though his passion and compassion are always inspiring. |
