They said she was the perfect neighbor, sweet and caring, devoted to her children and husband. Oh, when her children were killed she mourned and the rest of the clan did too, but something changed about Leonarda. She had always been a fortune teller, but more and more often she advised her clients to do dangerous and peculiar things. Everyone dismissed it as the ramblings of a grieving mother, even as her neighbors began to disappear, the clan never suspected the sweet and caring Leonarda as the killer. Until they found the body parts in the food. Cannibalism wasn't that unusual in the Plague flight, but killing and eating you clanmates? That was unacceptable. She was banished from the clan, hated and feared, but no one ever noticed the swirling mass hidden under her cloak, or the strange shadows that seemed to move within her red eyes. You see, Leonarda was no more, in her place was a shade-corrupted creature with only one desire: to bring back her children.

She traveled across the land, seeking out other shade corrupted dragons, hoping to learn the art of resurrection. In the Starfall Isles, she stayed with a corrupted Skydancer named Xara, a fellow Shade corrupted dragon who has experimenting to bring the dead back to life. Her only success turned a dead imperial into nothing more than a monster, not a living being. Disgusted, Leonarda stole Xara's potions and notes and left the Shade witch to her own devices, heading east back towards the Sornieth mainland.

As she traversed the Ashfall Wastes, she felt drawn to a disgustingly happy and peaceful farming clan. Prowling around at night, she snuck into Somnus Cave, travelling deeper and deeper down until she discovered what she was looking for. This was no shade-touched dragon, this was the Shade! She begged for him to accept her and teach her how to raise the dead, but he did not utter a word. She persists, however, sticking around Cascia, and trying to make him speak. Eventually, the other seers discovered her presence. They did not know who she was or what she was, for the shade had corrupter her so much, but they let her stay in the cave. She joins their ceremonies during the full moon, but she never leaves the cave, forever begging the Shade to bring back her children.
