Biography
painted columns stood in endless rows before the dragon, supporting a similarly painted ceiling. as Dustr made her way into the hall, brilliantly colored scenes filled her eyes. she remained silent, claws tapping the stone floors as she followed her country's ambassador to this kingdom. before long they had reached a throne where a skydancer lounged. his form, though relaxed, conveyed both elegance and power, and Dustr watched him as he turned his head to greet them. behind him the image of a stiff figure raised its hand to deliver a command. another dragon had been leaning on the arm of his throne and rose with the arrival of the two visitors.
this was not the first time that Dustr had entered the palace of the desert kingdom. (tbc)
---
her lady's betrothal had long been established, the marriage prepared years in advance. it was only a matter of waiting before the two would be joined, united the two kingdoms in a powerful political union. dustr thought nothing of it--it had been a fact since before her birth, and she had been born into a court of loveless marriages.
not that the princess would have told her how she felt--not now, at least. as soon as the marriage preparation had begun, the princess had given her maid the cold shoulder. dusty said nothing. she had no choice. she was used to her lady's moods.
-
she had had the same dream for as long as she could remember. she, a confident dragon, guiding shadowy shapes by the arm into the hands of her lady and another whom she did not recognize.
"imentet," her lady called her, and she felt themselves equals.
-
when she'd awake the next morning, her eyes always seemed to find her lady's, big yellows meeting small blues. but her lady would look away.
