Biography

"Mama!"
...

"Mamaaaa!"

.........

She looked around fitfully.

"Maaaaamaaaaaaaaa!"

The Auction House was no place for a hatchling. Barely an hour old, she was whisked away from her mother, and taken to the marketplace. The tag itched around her ankle, but she paid no attention.

"Maaaaaamaaaaaaa!"

But her cries got caught up in the hustle and bustle of the area. Monkeys screamed in their cages, roosters cawed, mercenaries hawked their services and no one took any interest in the snotty, blubbery hatchling.
The dragon who took her here had disappeared too, taking her 'mama' with him.
In the crowds, she was alone.
And it scared her.

Crawling to the back of her pen, she hid behind the other hatchlings, who clambered to the front of the pen. They were excited for their new homes. They were older, more experienced. They could run, jump, fly, and speak so nicely. All she knew was 'mama', and that mama wasn't coming to get her.
She watched as the others were coo'ed over. Picked up, inspected, held tightly, and off they went with their new families. Others still were approached by toughened warriors, who painted beautiful pictures of their gods, and their need for soldiers to fight. The very premise scared her, and she hid whenever the scarred veterans came near the pen.

No one came for her.
In a sense, she was happy. No one was just like her mama.
Until she noticed another dragon hanging around the pen.
She was tiny, about the same size as her, but fully grown. She was covered in beautiful clothes, but appeared green and purple underneath. Lifting her hat up to see, she cast a curious glance over to the girl.

"Ooooh hello dear! My you're a small one! Where's your mommy?"
The mention of her mama brought fat tears to her eyes again. Sniffling, she began to cry again.
"Ohhh no dear, hush, hush! Oh sweety, I know how you feel. Oh dear", she crooned, hopping into the pen with her. Wrapping her massive wings around her, the green dragon soothed the girl, brushing the sweaty locks on her head with a practiced air. Darting around the sniffling girl, the dragon picked up the dirty tag and inspected it. Digging into her pouch, she counted and recounted the items, before sighing. The other hatchlings gathered around, peeking in, but she shooed them away with a flick of her wing.
"Come here now dear, we'll take you home. Come on. Mama's got you."
This perked up the girl.
"Mama?"
"Oh no, not me dear, my great great grandchildren are old enough to be your mama. No no, I'll take you to your new mama. She's as big as me dear, but black and white." Taking the girl by the leash around her neck, the green dragon waddled ungainly out of the pen, chattering about her new family. Walking through the marketplace, she got into line behind the other patrons. The line pushed and shoved as impatient dragons pushed to the front of the line, and fights occasionally broke out over mixed transactions.
"My my, you don't even have a name yet, little one! Oh dear, this just won't do!"
The girl could hardly hear her over the noise, so she crept closer, almost knocking the other dragon over.
"Amala! Oof, dear, be careful. I'm only little you know. Watch your step around here. My, whoever could have left such a young one out HERE of all places, hrmph!"
"Mama?"
"No, sweetie. Amala. Ah-mah-lah. Try it. I think it suits you."
"Aaah...maaa...ma."
The dragon wiggled the fins on her head, before chuckling.
"I suppose that's close enough for now. Let's get you home sweetie. You need some rest."

"Aaah...maamaa!"
