Sphalerite is Clan Snastle's faithful blacksmith. Loud and boisterous, she is what many would call 'rough around the edges', but her friends call her 'full of character.' She typically gets along well with males, her blunt way of speaking lending itself poorly to the social dynamic of many female friend groups. That isn't to say she's without female friends. Those who take the time to get to know her absolutely adore the short, squat little snapper, rough edges and all. She is small in stature, but with bulky muscles from wielding the tools of her trade all day long. She keeps her Gembond ground down almost flat so that it never crumbles into the molten metal or gets in the way of her movement. Her body is a mass of burns and scars, badges of honour earned over many years wielding a smith's hammer. Although she can readily tend to all the metalworking tasks around the clan, her specialty is in working Kamaitachi Steel, a metal salvaged from the claws of the Beastclan weasel tribes known for ambushing clans in swampy areas. It is a difficult metal to work, made more so by the tendency of the Kamaitachi to seek vengeance on those who use it. However, the strength of blades properly forged from it is incomparable. Sphalerite's personal life revolves around friends, not romance. She loves nothing more than a night of flowing drinks and loud conversation, or an afternoon of kicking a ball around the dusty mudflats as the sun sets over the mountains. On nights out visiting other clans or at festivals, she always nudges her friends to point out ladies that suit their tastes, and they do the same for her. The group of males often feign melodramatic heartbreak when a beautiful lady ends up in Sphalerite's arms at the end of the night rather than their own. As much as she loves nights out, she has no mate in her life. It's a personal choice, she feels as though she is still fairly young and has a lot of personal growing to do before she settles down with the woman of her dreams, whoever that may be. Instead, she throws her passion into her work and her friends, and is very content to do so. Her forge is located beneath the small bath-house, and the tunnel of her chimney winds underneath the pools before leading to the side of the shell where the smoke can freely dissipate. The heat from her work helps to keep the baths warm, and also keeps the nearby nursery nice and toasty for all the nesting dragons. Sphalerite also stands in as Clan Snastle's Fire flight representative, as it gives her a great excuse to visit The Great Furnace, where she talks with other masters of her craft. |
