He was an artist.

By his definition, that meant a dragon who's talent and eye for beauty was so innate that everything they did was art, from the cliffside carvings (he only collapsed a clan's lair once, and that was months ago - people really should need to move on already) to the large abstract wooden sculptures he made out of deadfall trees. Even when he dyed his plumage and scales with the primitive bioluminescent paints that his family was know for, he was creating true art in the memorizing patterns and streaks.

It was a crime, really, that he had to sully his hands so often just to get paid. And although the region at large got to admire his work, the only dragons who where willing to pay where the ones who wanted simple things - a touch of paint here, or a

He had found his gift with metals (if one of his myriad of skills could be called a gift) when he was commissioned to make a bronze-work statue of some backwater* clan's founder. He couldn't understand it - the Fae, with it's mottled brown and grey colouration, hadn't been much to look at. But he'd gone down to his cousin's forge and designed the scale plating. In two nights, the pair had covered the stone shape and buffed it until it shone.

But the eyes, Lapis procured from the clan's vault, had made it all worth it. The stones were hardly perfect specimens, but seeing them set in the bronze had sired something deep within him. Thrilled as they where with their new toy, the clan hadn't noticed that the statue featured fewer stones than the artist had taken.

*As a resident of the sea of a thousand currents, Azurite really knows what he's talking about when he says backwater. That or it's just an incredibly literal saying for him.
---

It was amazing how few dragons knew exactly what six gold coins or an ounce of rubies looked like once it'd been melted down and reshaped into fine jewelry. While over the years into his adulthood his natural talent had earned him a reputation and the attention of many prolific clans, Azurite's distaste for work hadn't been lost.
