The clan was excited when the first flash of lemon showed when the hatchling first cracked the egg. Only Kun and Andlys stood apart in silence. They knew this was not the heir Andais had been waiting for.

When they revealed that the hatchling was a female, there was disappointment in the clan leader's eyes but they nuzzle her and draw her close to their bodies to keep warm along with her brothers. Kun watches the small hatchling his eyes swirling with color, while Andlys looks across the room to watch his younger brother, the disgraced former heir of the clan. Unlike the others in the room, Galen seems happy almost pleased with the fact that this was not the heir that was so highly anticipated. Andlys and Kun exchange a glance, Kun calm and Andlys saddened. Andlys gets up slowly "I will have Kalyn and Tiamat make her the skin." Kun watches as the current heir of the clan leaves to order the creation of the skin that will seal his young sister's fate."

A daughter born only to die. In her death will she find the true meaning of her life and she will go to the Flamecaller with her head held high.

She knows she will die if she ever removes the skin while in Clan Niharike. She even knows the way she will die. She does not yet understand why she will die. But she knows it is for the good of the clan. So she stands apart, aloof. A willing sacrifice.

She had never truly left the clan before and traveling with Pyrite on his ship to go treasure hunting was more than she had ever expected to be able to do. She smiles fondly at the memories of the treasure loving dragon and looks down to watch as the tiny month old hatchling stumbled along beside her. Every attempt to pick up the little guardian had resulted in shrieks and defiant howls until she had been put back on the ground to walk on her own. Her smile widens and she has to force herself not to pick up the pace when the entrance to the Niharike clan comes into view. The entrance opens to her touch as always and the first dragon she sees when she comes into the clan is her oldest brother, Andlys. Her chest tightens as he looks sadly at her. "So soon already?" She asks quietly and there is relief as her brother shakes his head and blinks away the star bright gaze of his Sight. The news that there had been a near match to the heir born startles her but she is relieved that she still has time left to enjoy her daughter's growing years and she hopes once more that she will see Pyrite again before she dies.

The Sacrifice waits as Fate closes in.

The Rebirth

Kun has manipulated his pawns for the first time in ages and the Sacrifice was reborn.


When she opens her eyes it is as if she has woken from a lonely dream, a half forgotten nightmare. There is a faint memory of pain and screaming and … she can remember nothing more. She blinks into the air and smiles at the sight of her oldest brother looking back at her with relief in his eyes. She gets up to greet him before she almost falls on her face. This body is new and she’ll have to relearn how to walk again. She huffs softly as Andlys and her parents chuckle. They urge her to rest, it’s a hard thing to be reborn so quickly. After all, Andlys says with a smile, you have all the time in the world now.
