Biography
She hatched alone in ice and snow from an earth egg lost in the drifts. Her body and mind never grew much, and she never learned to speak, but her mental magic developed quickly, reaching out in search of other minds, in search of warmth and companionship.
She had a hard time finding a home, for despite her simplicity and small form, her tremendous mind-speaking ability caused others to fear her. She searched long for a home and a name, for she didn't know what to call herself when others asked. After she learned to read by snatching the knowledge from the mind of another dragon, the first script she came across was a word, EDIBLES, stamped on a burlap sack that had once contained food. She took it as a sign and adopted the word as her name.
As she drifted from clan to village, she developed a longing to meet other earth dragons - perhaps they would understand her better. While in the region of Sevenbranch, she learned of a clan called Prufrock in the Starfall Isles that had a large population of earth dragons, so she decided to make her way there.
Due to her size and her simple way of thinking and reasoning, she was mistaken for a lost hatchling upon arriving at the clan, and the others were surprised to learn that she didn't hail from Oakrest or Maserift or The Burrow or another of their earth clan allies, that she instead had wandered up from the Southern Icefield.
Her mind powers were another surprise. Some in the clan found them endlessly fascinating and wanted to study her; others were wary and hoped she'd move on. Vespers, however, asked if she would make her home in the assembly hall near the administrative offices and convey messages into the minds of other dragons in the clan whenever he or the other leaders asked her to do so.
Ed, as she has come to be known, enjoys interacting with the other dragons who come into the assembly hall, especially those like Ashes who play games. She loves to join in, even though she rarely understands the rules.
Her childlike mind does cause some problems in conveying messages, as she doesn't always grasp concepts well. Since she has spent much of her life alone, she also has difficulty with many social situations, which can be exacerbated by her mental powers - she nearly incapacitated all of the dragons in the clan the first time she had a tantrum. Vespers created wards to help prevent such debilitating outbursts in the future, but even he doesn't know how strong Ed truly is.
