Lore

The wind was howling menacingly. The very night seemed to scream. A violent blizzard tore across the Southern Icefield. A single frozen egg rocked precariously on the edge of the ice. A sheer drop beneath the precipice gave way to the near frozen body of water below. The waves crashed and the ice floes bobbed, cracking violently against each other in the storm.

Had someone been watching the egg rocking back and forth in the storm they surely would have been anxiously holding their breath. It seemed that the egg would drop to its tragic demise. But, no one was there, and when the egg eventually did fall, it didn't break as one might expect. The waves churned by the storm above swallowed the egg and pulled it into the depths below.

Cascading to the ocean floor, the egg nestled in a darkened crevice. It was almost completely hidden from the creatures that lurked below. It seemed that it would remain forgotten at the bottom of ocean - alone in its watery grave.

Against all odds, it wasn't long before a second egg descended into the same crevice, sliding gently up against the ice egg. This egg was different. Bubbles twisted rapidly up and away from the smoldering heat of the cragged surface of the new egg. A radiating warmth was emitted from the shell, so hot that even through the cold water it was warming the surface of its frozen counterpart.

The crevice became an underwater nest, harboring eggs from the polar opposite regions. The hot and the cold of the outer shells aided in fusing the eggs together. The hatchlings inside the eggs began to synchronize before they knew each other, their hearts beating in one rhythm. It wouldn't be long before they emerged from their shells together.

Flotsam was the first to emerge, but only by seconds. Immediately after she freed herself from the casing that had trapped her to the ocean floor she was joined by her fiery correspondent. The pair looked into each others eyes, and though they had never seen each other before they accepted each other as their other half. They became inseparable.

Neither were born of the water element, but each took to the ocean depths as if they had been the offspring of the Tidelord himself. They moved as one in the dark caverns of the ocean floor, stalking their prey. Seafood never appealed to them, but the thrill of the hunt did. They would spend the entire day haunting their unsuspecting targets. They became a menace to the creatures of the ocean floor.

It wasn't long before the pair grew tired of the water. Making their way to the surface, they found themselves surrounded by a cold, barren landscape. Flotsam didn't know at the time, but she had made her way back to the land she had emerged from.
