My entry is about masking.
"I used to have a lot of social anxiety. I tried to blend in and not be noticed. I modeled my demeanor and speech patterns after the people around me. I called it putting on my armor. It helped protect me from prejudice and bullying, but it was exhausting.
Eventually I found out that my armor is more commonly called autistic masking. It's a coping skill that can help me to meet other peoples' expectations, but often at the cost of my own enjoyment. Over time I've learned more about Autism and become more confident and comfortable in myself. I still use masking sometimes, however I no longer discount my own needs and feelings."
