Portia

Portia serves as the astronomer and starseer for her denmates. She is older than Freida, and for quite a while was the oldest dragon in the clan. She's quite reserved and often lost in thought, and more often than not spends the days sunning herself and writing. Portia often communes with Freida and Nisha about what she sees in the stars - Freida tends to be skeptical, but Nisha (and her apprentice) confide in her in order to enhance their magic with any celestial power that Portia tells them of. She's eccentric and reads the sky as though it is a book, and will sometimes claim the heavens are speaking to her. Her reports and stories are enthralling to other dragons in the clan, and the less skeptical ones will occasionally stay up late to listen to what she has to say.

She was born a Guardian, with the heavens being her charge, but as time passed she developed debilitating arthritis that rendered her nearly immobile. The clan healer suggested a breed change into something lighter and without the Guardian bulk, which made locating and treating inflammation difficult. Portia relented eventually, realizing other serious implications of the illness, and is still recovering from the transformation.
