Sarcastic / Brutal / Cunning

Often speaks in a Taunting manner. Over exaggerates knowledge that they think is common.

Tends to be very violent, at times their cruelty knows no bounds.

Very skilled in the ways of Deceit and using them to reach their goals.

Were it possible, Atropos would abandon her post within the Court of the Eleven. At best, her fellow ambassadors strike her as air-headed, well-meaning fools. At worst, they seem more inclined to talk than act. Plus, while they are all tolerable as individuals, occasionally even likable, they are as a whole a stuffy oversight committee with an inclination to stall against putting their talents to work. Why hop right in and get their claws dirty when they can deliberate for an hour about the little things first?
But if Atropos wasn't there to stand up for the Plague Flight, there would be no one else capable of assuming the role. It's not that Ulalume's Plague residents are useless, not by any means, but few of them have the history and experience that would make them effective in a council setting. Most are too starstruck by the power of the Court and would be too easily swayed as a result. No, Atropos must keep her position until a worthy successor rears their unlucky head and finds a seat on the Court with their name on it.

Finding that successor will be no easy task, though. Around Court affairs, Atropos has been searching, but there are requirements that must be met. For one, her replacement cannot be weak of heart, nor of the stomach. She should certainly hope not in a Plague dragon, but nonetheless, there are extreme circumstances involved in her role, and it is better to be certain a dragon can handle it before she leaves them to their own device.

Torture is a particular tricky hurdle standing in her way. The Court politely dubs it "interrogation" when discussing the criminals they send Atropos's way, but in truth, it's not just demanding answers to vague questions until a dragon cracks and spills their darkest secrets. It's dealing with spies, with dragons who think they have the upper hand (and sometimes do), and it's breaking them down into all their component parts no matter how loudly they beg for mercy. And, it's collecting debts. Occasionally, there is room for mercy there (Atropos in not in the habit of collecting outlandish debts from dragons fallen on hard times through no fault of their own, of course), but often, there cannot be. Anyone seeking to claim her Court seat will have to have a spine of steel to withstand the demands made of that position. After all, none of the other ambassadors are keen on playing Atropos's role.

More difficult an obstacle still, though, is the Plague Sprite that brought Atropos to Ulalume in the first place. Truly, it is a delightful creature, one of Plaguebringer's finest creations. Atropos is quite enamoured with its impish, quick thinking, and the way it reads her sarcasm so intuitively. Few creatures, dragon or otherwise, have shared such a kinship with her, and she values its company in a way so few others will ever experience.

However, the sprite refuses to leave her side, and that poses a deeper issue. As a direct creation of the Plaguebringer, it is, for all intents and purposes, the symbol of her Court authority. Were she to choose a successor and leave them to brave the Court, the sprite would have to accompany the new ambassador to solidify their authority. Should it cling to Atropos instead, she fears she'll wither in her Court seat, a bag of bones trying to corral her erstwhile fellows into something productive. Dying as the Plague Ambassador of Ulalume does not strike her as an ideal fate, especially because it will probably end in some glamorous tomb with a simpering plaque. Given the option, she'd rather donate her organs to scientific efforts in the Scarred Wasteland, than be left to rot among the grow shrooms. With any luck, they'll be parasitic and give her a curious second life worth studying.
With no solution to her entrapment in the Court and a shortage of viable successors at this time, Atropos spends her free hours tending to the mushrooms in her care and toying with dishes of bacteria, freshly harvested from the Driftwood Drag. While it may not be the disease-rich homeland of her youth, there are new maladies to be explored, and equally new treatments to be discovered. That, unlike so much of the work the other ambassadors, while their days away at, has exceptional, lasting value.

As long as the dragons who oversee her funeral dispose of her remains according to her wishes, she supposes she wouldn't object to a posthumous monument honouring her research. Let Ulalume know all the silent, useful work she did for it. Going to the grave with a legacy would not be the most terrible thing in the world.
