Mysterious Crystal Chemist

In the frozen south an odd egg bore an odd hatchling. Batu was cold towards his nestmates and parents both. His anti-social tendencies did not mellow with age and he refused to bond with other hatchlings or adult dragons. Something about them simply repulsed him. He spent as much time away from his clan as he could, always skulking on the outer edges of their territory. That's where he found something... odd.

A stone. A strange spangly chunk from somewhere unknown.

Possessed by some unknown force, he reached out to touch it. The object burned through his skin, into his core, melting him from the inside. And yet... he felt no pain. He felt euphoric even as crystalline lesions began to boil out of his flesh. In a delusional high he wandered beyond his clan's territory and into the far flung wastes. Beset by blizzards and starvation, visions and voices came to him urging him on. They whispered sweet things, that he was touched, blessed. All he had to do was follow the Light...

After days of wandering the snowy desert he met a Light dragon wreathed in shadows. She took Batu under her wing and brought him over the seas, to the cloister of her clan. There he was invited to start anew, amongst the other freaks and misfits that were cast out by lesser gods.

Batu lives in a constant state of surreal delirium due to the toxic crystalforms sprouting from his skin. He sees the world differently than everyone else. Brighter, stranger. Possibly truer.

Batu has a perverse sense of curiosity. He wants to know everything. Intimately. He easily lapses into fits of obsession in pursuit of answers. The fairest object of his fixations are crystals. He's known to even biopsy his own to preform his experiments. Sometimes on other dragons. Sometimes without them knowing.
