He took up his father's craft at a young age, whittling charms out of wood and scales, carving them into stones and bones, imbuing them with the magic that runs through his veins, that pumps through his heart. Like his mother, he was born resistant to the Shade. Resistant, but not immune. If he focused, he could feel it in his chest, tightly coiled, there but dormant. He wondered if his siblings could feel it too -- but never asked. Upon reaching maturity, he left to forge his own path, his mother's protective runes emblazoned on his scales as a final parting gift. As is typical for his breed, Nych is especially attune to the moods and intentions of others. When he met Nettle, he knew his character immediately -- saw his moral ambiguity and his inflated sense of self-worth -- and fell for him all the same. The first time he ever laughed was the result of a cheap trick Nettle played on a traveler. The sound startled him and in his embarrassment, he shoved his snout underneath his wing to muffle the unfamiliar noise. His antennae twitched; in that moment, Nettle had just fallen for him too. |
