It was a cold day when it happened. An icy wind blew against me as I watched the weak sun rise to warm the frigid icefield, though it's efforts would be vain.
The view was a solemn one, but it would be the best I would get. Mornings were the only time I could be alone. Even in my dreams, I could feel something watching me.
"Tundra! It's time for a meeting. Get to the Clearing."
I closed my eyes, mumbling curses under my breath. Despite my long fur coat, the cold had seeped through to my skin. Still, I didn't want the moment to end.
The Clearing was filled with dragons like me- scared, angry, starved and scarred. I sat down in the back, and barely a moment later I felt someone's fur brush against mine. Turning my head, I recognized my brother, Tantras. His light-golden eyes met mine, but his still shined, despite all we had been through.
"'ey, Jason." he whispered with a smile. I grunted my reply- I had never been one for talking.
"If you're curious, Cadoc says there's a battle going on. He probably wants some of us to help, don't you think?"
My blood ran cold when he mentioned 'battle'- which was a surprise, since I was pretty sure I was freezing already. We were captives, all of us in the Clearing, taken from our homes and forced to live our lives under Cadoc- an insane dragon who was loyal to nobody but his deity, the creator of the awful land he was born in- the Icewarden. He forced us to train against his followers so that we may serve the Icewarden in his battles and, most likely, die.
"Attention!"
A booming voice shook the ground and I looked up. A massive figure stood atop an icy rock overlooking the Clearing. Cadoc.
"As you may know, our esteemed father of Ice has begun a battle of Dominance. I have decided on dragons worthy of being exalted. Let me begin.."
He began calling out names, which caused dragons to gasp and cry. Me, I was just hoping, hoping, hoping that neither me or Tantras would go.
"Maffel.. Alvaro.. Cotillion.."
So far, so good.
"Hansin.. Rufus.. Corvid.."
How many dragons would he need? There was a lot of us in the crowd, but not that many. Once, he called thirty names. That was probably the luckiest day of my life, considering I was still standing.
"Cathex.. Tantras.. Chagrin.."
It took me a moment to comprehend what he had said, and then the world went dark.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Stop it."
"You fainted. On the spot. Right in the Clear-"
"Shut up. Shut up. You're going to die, I should be bothering about you.."
White. All I could see was the white of the endless snow, and the brown of my feet, claws gripping the ground in frustration and fear. Tantras was still talking, still worrying. I hated him then.
"Maybe it won't be forever.. maybe I'll survive, and I'll come back.." he mumbled.
"You won't." I shook my head. "Even if you survive this one, you'll be placed in the next battle, and then you'll die.."
He was next to me again, looking down at me with that concerned look on his face. "You've got to get out of here, Jason.." he whispered. "You've got to run, and if they come after you you have to fight, and you have to run until you can't run anymore." His voice was shaking. "I never see you try, Jason. You're just miserable because you think you're stuck here. You think you're forced to stay here. But you're not. Now you have to run, and don't look back."
I stared at him, confused. "Now..? What do you mean?"
Those shining eyes were now focused on me. "I'm not leaving until I see you leave. I want to know you have a chance."
That was the last time I ever saw my brother. He practically chased me away then, and despite what he had said, I looked back. I looked back for as long as I could, to remember him.
They did come after me. They attacked me, and I fought, and I escaped. It was an awful, endless cycle, but they eventually gave up. I had gone too far.
I was certain I would die then. Scared, angry, starved and scarred. But I didn't. I pushed on, and I lived, and I will never be a prisoner again.

Jason is a shy dragon, not often seen in the crowds. He's paranoid of strangers, and anxiety often paralyzes him. It takes a long time for him to trust a dragon, and even then, that bond can be broken. It takes someone patient and understanding to help him.
It may sound like he's just shy and sweet, but he's not exactly nice. Jason is a sarcastic dragon, making rude remarks, even if it crosses the line. He enjoys arguments, and will fight over petty things just to see others frustrated. But if the argument gets personal, he'll shut his mouth and leave. He'll avoid the offender for weeks.
Jason has a love for writing. He loves making up his own stories when there isn't anything better to do. His job as a scribe brings him to important meetings, writing down anything important and giving the information to Nebula. Visitors from other Clans go to him for their life stories to be written down, and he gladly obliges.
Gened with Falcon on October 17th, 2016.
