Clan Athelas usually kept themselves to the close vicinity of their home, the edge of the Shrieking Wilds. But sometimes circumstances forced them to venture further out beyond the Gladekeeper's territory. Today was such a day.

Adahl had been out on a routine hunting trip with a hunting party of 5. The land seemed somewhat barren that day, and their hunting had taken them to the very edge of the Viridian Labyrinth. They had finally found trace of prey, and vere following the trail, when the ambush hit. They all heard a cry of agony behind them and before they knew any better they were swarmed by dragons from all sides. It was instantly clear to Adahl that they were outnumbered, she could see 6 dragons around her and heard 2 more somewhere behind her. They were all Plague dragons, dark skinned and viscous looking, with a dangerous glow in their red eyes.

Adahl threw a quick glance behind her to determine the origin of the cry, and her heart sank. Dami, a young apprentice hunter, had been at the very back of the hunting party. The young Wildclaw's throat was crushed between two Plague Mirrors' jaws, the life in her eyes already draining away. Adahl's sinking heart was replaced by white hot fury, and what happened next was a blur for everyone involved. Adahl's furious roar rallied her clanmates and soon 6 of the Plague dragons were dead. The two surviving Plague dragons, both mildly wounded, were struck by fear from Adahl's visciousness and fled as fast as they could. Despite being outnumbered, Adahl's little hunting party was victorious, but the victory had its cost. Next to the lifeless form of Dami lay Skara, his wings broken and ribcage shattered. They had lost two clanmates to the Plague ambush, something Adahl could not forgive.

Half a day later Adahl led a team of the most battle skilled dragons in clan Athelas seeking revenge for their fallen friends. Theron, the best tracker in the clan, had no problem following the trail that the two wounded Plague dragons had left behind, and soon they found themselves on the outskirts of the Scarred Wasteland. The wounded Plague dragons had led them staight to their lair. The battle that followed was firece but short lasting, Adahl had the best fighters with her and they greatly outnumbered the Plague clan.

There were no hatchlings or young ones among the Plague dragons, an oddity that would have been quite perplexing if Adahl's group would have had any time to notice such things through their battle frenzy. But even if they had noticed, they couldn't have possibly known the reason. This Plague clan had beed cursed, and they hadn't been able to produce more than 3 hatchlings the past 7 years, the last one over 2 years ago. They had been tremendously lucky a few days prior however, and in their nesting grounds there was now one, pale green egg.

When the Plague clan got attacked by the brute force of Clan Athelas, the dragons who guarded the egg immediately feared for its safety. The safety of the egg was their top priority and so they called on their sorcerers to aid them. As the batlle moved closer and closer to the nesting grounds, with barely a few Plague dragons left in the sky, the guardians and sorcerers grew desperate. And so with the desperation to protect their single, invaluable egg, they sought to cast a spell to end the battle and protect the egg. They were hasty however, their spell was prepared poorly in their hurry and did not work as intended.

As Adahl reached the nesting grounds while chasing down the last Plague dragon fighting, a loud crack tore through the air. A strong shockwave smashed everyone to the ground, hard enough that some dragons blacked out. The sorcerers hade done something quite different from what they wanted, casting the powerful spell so hastily without caution, had destroyed them all. A thick, dark purple smoke covered the area, originating from one of the nests. Adahl, still somewhat dazed, slowly lifted her head and tried to find the source of the blast through the smoke. Small cracking sounds filled the otherwised hushed atmosphere, coming from the nest in front of Adahl. And as the smoke slowly dissipated, Adahl found herself staring into a pair of round, red glowing eyes.

Adahl had taken pity on the poor little baby that had hatched that terrible day. She had felt a twinge of guilt when she realised that she had killed this hatchling's entire clan, and so she decided to bring him back to the Viridian Labyrinth. Many of the other dragons disagreed with this decision, the hatchling had been born on a very dark day, and in an enemy's lair at that. Not to mention the huge magical blast that happened moments before he hacthed, many believed that the hatchling himself had been responsible for it. Adahl argued however, that the hatchling was in no way responsible for the doings of the Plague clan, he hadn't even been born. It would be unfair to judge him for something he had nothing to do with. That left him as what he truly was, an orphan without a family, without a clan, who would surely perish on his own. And clan Athelas would never, never, turn down anyone who needed help.
