Biography
Having lost his promising young daughter as a student, Oberon has taken Skyler in as his apprentice. He was surprised by Oberon's request. Oberon rarely socialized with anyone other than the leaders of the clan and his fellow guards. For a young inexperienced dragon to catch his attention, he must be something special.
"Why did you pick me?" he asked once.
"You dressed like you wanted to be a warrior. In a clan full of scholars, that is a rare thing, I wanted to put you through training before you found something you liked better," Oberon said with a laugh. Skyler always regretted asking. Despite being one of the most respected warriors in the clan, he did not seem to think much of his occupation.
"A warriors life is hard. You will have many scars before long, even with skin as thick as yours," Oberon warned warmly. Skyler always took these warnings with a grain of salt. He noted that neither Tybalt nor Lyssa had any scars to speak of. Maybe the reason Oberon was covered in scars was simply because he was always shielding less experienced fighters. With this in mind, he asked permission to train with other dragons in beastclan territory where they will not lack opponents. He would rather his team make mistakes together than let himself become yet another liability for his mentor to shield. Oberon does not like this but agrees to respect his wishes if he ventures on his own. He does and tragedy strikes, again and again.
They suffer greatly as they progress especially in the Scorching Forest. Leaf cannot seem to handle the heat, and his opponent aren't phased by his feeble scratches. The beautiful Lady Juliana seems far less cheerful and upbeat the longer they stay in the unrelenting heat. Still, she remains a far more realible fighter than he ever would have guessed when he first met her. Sometimes she even manages to one shot opponents on her own. He is glad the Lady Lyssa insisted he bring her on his journey.
After a grueling travel through the Scorched Forest, they finally reach the Sandswept Delta. It is still hot, but they have allies here. A Dragon from the clan recognizes them and invites them into her tent. She lets them rest there for the night and gives them supplies so they can continue. The aid is welcome, and he is relieved that they will not have to turn back. Even if part of him misses Trista, he soon remembers how distant she has been lately as if she's in another world entirely and is only looking into this one with passing interest. He finds his thoughts turn to the newcomer, Regina. She is elegant and terrifying all at the same time. Every time he sees her, he can hear the distant hum of the generator that gives her wings an electrifying touch. He always has the childish impulse to touch them and see if he could feel the electricity running through his veins. Perhaps, once he is as powerful and respected as Oberon he will take her as his new mate if he has the courage to face what lies ahead.
