Biography

ersatz_by_infernette_smol_by_celesol-dblav3o.png

Singeth all her silent praises
for the one who is her king
loveth all his faults and failures
in spite of anything
like a father, like a brother
more then friend, far more than lover
this devotion can't be quelled
there will never be another
in her eyes he's always Sinless
ever without blame
for he stirred her very essence
gave her soul its flame
Credit to Infernette! Look at my sweet angel. ;w;

Ersatz, the Virtuous Automaton
"My master has not permitted me to speak to you. Please, refrain from wasting my energy."

Ersatz is a energetic and forthright person. She speaks her mind clearly and concisely and prefers action over words and thoughts.

She is also an automaton created by the dragon Sinless, and as such, she needs neither food nor sleep. Sinless created her in the form of a dragon, so as to help him on his quest of keeping peace and justice. His nicknames for her include 'sweet blood' and 'my heroine'.

Due to being crafted from organic materials and metal scraps found in the Golem Workshop, she has a strange affinity with the place, and considers it her 'mother' in a way. The blue veining in her wings and skin are actually tubes and circuits of Sinless' blood, which powers her.

Ersatz calls Sinless master, and has unfaltering loyalty towards him - this is honestly not Sinless' doing, as brain-washing goes against everything he stands for. It's just a quirk of Ersatz. She basically imprinted on the first thing she saw.

Unfortunately, this means she can barely think or function when she's alone, but neither she nor Sinless like being out of each others' presence so they hardly notice. This has led some dragons to speculate if their relationship is anything more than master and servant, but Ersatz would never even think of something so preposterous - they're the best of friends, more like siblings, or father and daughter than lovers. But Sinless does love cuddles and skinship, so misunderstandings still abound.
Ersatz is content just protecting him as her duty and 'instincts' bid her. She has hardly anyone she's willing to talk to, outside of Sinless - - Regal and Royal being some of the few. For some reason she thinks she needs Sinless' permission to talk to strangers. Sinless is befuddled by this, but humors her.

As a warrior, she feels the need to dress practically to better serve her master - swords and armour being her go-to choice of apparel. Sinless, however, finds humor in adorning her with jewelry and flowers, which she abides with exasperation, as it is 'the will of my master'.

The Automaton awoke to the gentle licking of light against her eyelids. Was 'woke' the right word?
Would 'born' not suit her better? Regardless, she had no words with which to parse her thoughts. Her brain was just a mystifying jumble of pictures, sliding one after the other into her mind's eye.

Her body crunched and sputtered into movement. Inelegant, but practical. Joints squeaked due to being used for the first time.

The Automaton turned her head this way and that, looking for some sort of revelation to unwrap these curiosities.

There. Next to the nest she awoken in, crumpled to the ground was a silky blue male Skydancer, dressed lavishly in rainbow coloured ribbons. Was he asleep, as she had been?

The Automaton sat up in her nest to get a closer look at the Dancer. He was breathing, but weakly. His hide was thick with sweat, and his face seemed pale and pained. The Automaton reached out an uncertain hand to touch his flank.

He was cold.

She shook him but nothing happened. Why did she wake, and he did not? She inspected the body. Was there some way to 'turn on' the dragon? The Automaton noticed that the Skydancer had his left arm clasped tightly around his right one. Strange.

A thin, blue wire seemed to be sticking out of the dragon's wrist. She followed the wire with her eyes - stranger still, the wire was connected to her own neck.

In her fascination with discovering the secrets of the body in front of her, she had neglected to notice this detail about her own.

Whatever the purpose of the wire might be, The Automaton decided she must remove it, for it seemed to be causing pain to the dragon in front of her, and she couldn’t allow that.

She wasn't sure exactly when it happened, but he was very important to her. Something about his slender frame and translucent feathers demanded protection and delicacy.

The Automaton griped the wire in her mouth, and pulled it from the wrist.

She assumed, as soon as the wire was removed, the dragon would pop back up, alive and well.

Instead, a hole just appeared where the wire had been, and an alarming trickle of blue dribbled forth.

The Automaton was not sure what this was, but she panicked all the same. The blue looked too precious to waste. The Automaton placed the pad of her finger against the hole, feeling the warm, thick blue lap around it.

And she waited. Eventually, the blue congealed to block the hole, but she was worried, so her finger remained.

The Automaton had no grasp of time, so she'll never know how long she sat there, with eyes unblinking, staring at the dragon.

She could however, watch with baited breath as the light around her slowly faded darker and darker.

She watched as his breath started to seem deeper and more relaxed, as the colour returned to his face, and as the grip around his own wrist loosened.

The room was dark when his body stirred. The Automaton flinched.

His eyes opened, bright green and glowing in the darkness. The Automaton, then and there became consumed in her own loyalty to those eyes.

His mouth opened as they stared at each other. Noise came from him, but The Automaton didn't know their meaning.

She watched with interest as the dragon's claw reached to the side of her neck and pulled out the other end of the wire, which by now, she had completely forgotten.

He placed his hand on her face, gentle as can be, and spoke again. And again, she didn't understand. But this time, the sounds stuck with her, even if the noise didn't make sense, she could still grasp the meaning in the words.

"Ersatz.”

"When I wake up,
I forget sometimes -- why I'm here.
And then I see his eyes,
and I remember."
