AODGHAN

Goldsmith | Tea Addict
╭━━━━━━━━▽━━━━━━━━╮

"Would you like more honey? How about peppermint? I would give you snacks, but food tends to take on the smoke in the forge. Tell me, what's your fancy today?"

╰━━━━━━━━△━━━━━━━━╯
>> Warm and gentle like dripping honey.
>> There's always hot fruit and herbal tea in his workshop.
>> Not the best tradesman but well appreciate for his character and artistry.
>> People used to just call him honeycomb because Fedlim found him fumbling through crates of honey smuggled traded in from the Scarred Wasteland. He has taken up a new name and new profession since.

Origins

Found long ago fumbling through crates of honey smuggled from the Scarred Wasteland, Aodghan's temperate and mellow nature could be considered entirely at odds from his fiery origins. Fedlimid had at first been hesitant to welcome such a strange wanderer into the clan, given that fire dragons could be disruptive and even dangerous- fiery lands birthed fiery tempers, after all, and wind dragons prized nothing more than being both irreverent and capricious. Surely one of them would anger him, and he'd set the lair ablaze.

Fortunately, that hadn't been the case.

It was custom for any new dragon to show the clan their craft and prove themselves worthy of joining, and so Aodghan lived on the edges of the plateau while they had observed his mannerisms, watching him hunt and gather what ores and minerals he could find. Even through hardship, he never seemed to frustrate or rage, and the clan watched with no small amount of surprise as he slowly, painstakingly built a forge for himself on the outskirts of the clan's territory. When the wind tore the stones and dirt he had gathered from the earth, he simply regathered them; when the storms forced him to take shelter and interrupt his work, he did so without pause. When he wasn't working, he would most commonly be found experimenting with tea blends and joyfully consuming as many raw honeycombs as he could find.

The forge took him weeks to build, and during that time he worked hard to ingratiate himself with the members of the clan, sharing his gathered resources and showing the other dragons how the forge was constructed. When it was finally finished, he lit it with a fire brewed deep in his gut, and it stayed lit; and he made for the clan a beautiful chain of gold and semiprecious stones. It was then that he was fully welcomed into the clan, and he has remained ever since.

He is the clan's smith, specializing in jewelry and decorations, and is considered as sweet as the honey he was discovered devouring. His origins, instead of making him temperamental, instead have granted him deep passion- for his craft, for tea, and, most importantly (to him, at least), for sweets.

"Here, sit down, sit down! Try this- it's a new tea blend I've been putting together between projects. Pelagas feathers, treasure plant, and charged duneberries gathered after last night's storm, sweetened with fresh honey; you can't go wrong with that. Fedlim says I've got a real gift for this, y'know- even though I'm supposed to be a goldsmith!"

Memories

A few moons after Aodghan’s forge flickers to life for the first time, the local wildflower honey takes on the aroma of smoke and ash—faintly at first, but more distinctly with each new harvest. Aodghan keeps a small jar of one of these early batches in his personal collection of vintage honeys, to be savored on anniversaries and special occasions.

Among the other varieties in his ever-growing selection includes a slab of honeycomb from Emberglow Hearth, collected from a hive by the orchard of potash peaches near his birthplace. Its somewhat charred flavor isn’t dissimilar to the kind from his new lair, and he marvels at how his ancestral element, for all its destructive potential, also brings nourishment and homestead.

Of the more piney reserves in Aodghan’s small pantry of rarities is a honey imported from the Snowsquall Tundra, extremely valuable for its notoriously difficult harvest. There isn’t much life in the Southern Icefields, but what little flora those hardy arctic bees can pollinate makes for a delightfully minty blend. It was originally a housewarming gift from Fedlimid, and Aodghan exclusively breaks it during his esteemed clan leader’s visits.

The only honey Aodghan has never actually tasted was given to him by Lamia, the clan dancer that dabbles in potionry. Aodghan regards this particular vial with equal parts fondness and suspicion—as touched as he was that Lamia even knew his birthdate, the honey itself is colored an odd shade of deep, deep purple, and Aodghan isn’t fully convinced that it’s not poisoned.

Sometimes, when Aodghan’s natural restlessness crests to unbearable uneasiness, he will break his own rule and eat from his locked collection in heaping, unremorseful spoonfuls. He takes a moment to luxuriate in the way the sticky sweetness lingers in his throat and infuses his senses with the kind of clarity that comes only with patient, wistful reverie. It’s not (entirely) stressful indulgence; it’s also careful consideration and quiet self-reflection.

On the surface, Aodghan’s fondness for honey may seem to be just that: a childish fascination, a strange obsession. The misconception doesn’t bother him; for someone who gives so much of his time and attention to others, it feels only right to allow himself this one selfishness—the honey, and the amber-tinted clarity that comes with it.
