history
Nerd pushed her way into the fray as the hidden cache was unloaded. She swept up her chosen goodies in a sack and headed back into the archives to process her new acquisitions. As she was sorting through the scrolls that she would be distributing later, a round little egg dropped out and rolled under her desk.

"Hey you, come back!" she chattered chasing after the little brown egg. She caught it and set it up on her desk. "What to do with you..." She looked around and noticed just how much work was piling up for her in the archive (she often read more than she worked...). She needed a helper...

Nerd cracked open the egg and a small guardian rolled out and coughed in the dusty space. She was enthralled by all that was around her.

"You are now my intern! You work for me and I'll... I'll give you education credits. Yes. That's how that works, yes?"

---

Nerd was following her around with scrolls again; the poor little guardian had been put to work immediately after she had grown accustomed to her new space. There was a familiar looking scroll tucked behind her wing...

"Please Nerd, not again. You've already whacked me a few times, and my colours just keep getting worse! I think I'll just live with what I have..." she begged, not wanting to experience the tingling burn of the magic shifting her spectrum.

"Nonsense. Can't have you looking all unmatchy-matchy. One more time, promise."

"Fine." She sat still as Nerd grabbed the scroll and tapped her on the head with it. She kept her eyes closed, trying not to sneeze the magical residue all over the scrolls that she had just sorted (she had sneezed on a previous scatter and the scrolls changed colours...).

"Oh. Oh my. Yes. Yes, this will do. The clan will definitely approve of you now. I think I may just let you out in public now." Nerd said. "Now, short break, then back to work!"

She opened her eyes and examined her now green skin. She would definitely fit into the green lair now.

---

"Hey now, watch it!" Jot tucked her tail behind her and carefully tried to turn around in the small aisles of the archive. The shelves wobbled as her wings brushed against them - she felt one of them tipping, tipping, tipping! She caught it just in time, but was now stuck.

"This will not do, nope. You are simply getting too big for the archives."

Please just let me go do a different job, she thought desperately. I like the scrolls and your stories, but I've got cramps galour...

"Easy fix. Stay here."

Nerd disappeared for a moment and Jot heard her ruffling around across the hall in the storehouse. Nerd returned rather quickly. Jot heard the unmistakable sound of a magical seal being opened and froze.

"Hold still now..."

Her whole body tingled and suddenly the shelves were growing! Nerd was growing! The archive was growing! She sneezed and Nerd caught her.

"There we go. An archive is no place for a Guardian, but a Fae? A perfect place! And you should have retained your Guardian strength, so those scrolls will be no problem!" Nerd trotted off back to her desk leaving Jot to flutter around on her new wings, amazed at her lightness. She had never considered becoming a different breed, let alone a fae, but it would work! She could stay with the stories!

Now if only Nerd would pay her.
