His survival in itself is a surprise, though perhaps having such a protective mother has something to do with it. Azrael was part of a nest that his father had every intention of sending to the Shadowbinder, due to his lack of being a Shadow dragon himself he would often do this to his children as he had in the past. But his mother wouldn't have it, not this time she would demand and protectively sit around her hatchlings. Azrael was the most worrisome of the group, as his parents very quickly learned that their son was entirely mute.

Maybe Azrael couldn't speak, but he did adapt to other ways of communicating whether he realized it or not. He could make gestures at things he wanted or simple nods and shaking his head. The more complex things though, he adapted to using skydancer emotional techniques, before he even knew what those were. When neither of his parents seemed to understand what he wanted, he learned to press his emotions onto them and it gave them a better idea of what he was feeling in that moment, and how to fix it.

While he did adapt quickly enough, his parents did feel that The Murder was too dangerous for Azrael in particular. Sending him to The Fable was ultimately a good decision, it was much safer there admittedly, but Azrael was not necessarily happy about it. He was a handful for the babysitter of the clan, and only began to calm down as he got older, and discovered the same magic that his father always used back in his home clan. When he was old enough to go out on his own, he was able to surprise his family by talking properly using magic, forming words in smoke for others to read and understand him.

B I O G R A P H Y

The title of the clan sorcerer was given to him without a second thought, he had definitely earned it for all the work he had done. However life would take a turn for him when his father showed up at his door with a small imperial hidden under his wing, with a nocturne clinging to their back. These were at the time, the only two hatchlings from the exiled shadetouched imperial Marchosias, who hid his condition from The Murder's leader and was punished for it. When he left he left behind his nest, resulting in the two hatchlings there under Alastor's wing.

The nocturne would be easy enough to hide given the difference in species, but the imperial not so much. A big imperial dragon with fairly obvious shadetouched features? It was practically a death sentence waiting to happen. Thus the hatchling named Cado stayed with Azrael, eventually becoming like an adopted son to him as he taught him about the world around him, and kept him safe from suspicion from Spiritus. He did however have to call in additional help from the clan's healer named Maestro, as Azrael couldn't handle healing the sickness that was the shade that plagued Cado at all times. The healer sighed about it, but did agree to help for the sake of the hatchling.

So things remained just as they were for awhile, with one shadetouched dragon to look after. But soon there were more, as Alastor found more hatchlings that were left laying around on their own nearby the allied clan's lair. They hatched safely, and Cado's siblings Celo and Contego came to stay in The Fable for their safety as well. It was a handful to look after them all, but Azrael loved all of them and did his best to take care of them. Unfortunately when the lair was attacked by Beastclans, Celo died protecting her brothers from harm, and Contego died of seemingly unknown causes, leaving Azrael with only his first son remaining.

Unlike some of the dragons in the clan, Azrael had never really seen the clear blue skies of Wind before, so when The Fable returned there he was disappointed for not seeing what Plague was like really, but appreciated the safe feeling he got from the Windswept Plateau, not for his sake so much as Cado's however. The area might be good on his health, but Azrael is worried about how a certain dragon seems to be looking at Cado and himself lately...
