The days passed like wind rustling through the branches of tall trees. As much as part of nature as any breeze, she looked on in unfeeling apathy. How could she understand the frantic dances of her lesser kin, looping and exhausting their vibrancy every spring for a comfort that was less than a blink of her eternity. How could she understand the fierce desperation of the tatter beast that faced her in vain when she parted the flesh of a new beast to marvel at the colour of red, when her own essence was an ephemeral string born from the primordial energy of the Wind Father's existence. She grew bored. The primordial energies settled and the aura of Father which had once accompanied her steps grew distant and weak, as did those of the other true gods. The world was moving on from the days of myth and legends. She was a relic of the past, and earlier chaotic age. While the lesser kin multiplied and spread across the lands and oceans, her ilk grew far and in between, some to a deep sleep, some to a willing relinquishment of their selves. More still had forgotten themselves as the first creations and become like the lesser- mortal and aging until time claimed them, not even their final moments remembering their immortality. |

Eternity was a long time. She had lived one her way. Perhaps it was now time to learn of the younger. She saw the younger then, and crafted herself a body of the youngest of Father's creations before she too finally let herself fall into slumber, her divine body kept safe deep within the air of her creation for her to return to if she were to finally tire of her new life, following many of her ilk into a new world. She opened her eyes as one of the younger. She grew strong. The wind kissed her and caressed the orange and green scales of her new form, recognising her origin as one of the first creations. Everyday that passed she felt her mortal form shed. She knew this body would be long lived, but barely of notice to her eternity. But strangely she felt the stirrings of urgency, the desire to live and love and create. They were foreign to her, senses she had heard of in her few contacts with the younger before her recreation, but never experienced for herself. She resisted out of habit at first, before letting them carry her one, remembering her resolve to live as one of the younger and see the world through their eyes. She found a fierce desire, one of the younger from the lands of plague glistening with pink and black, colours that caught her eyes, standing out so starkly against the green and white backdrop of her eternity in the wind domain. |

She was tempted to revoke her mortal body when the last one, the one that had survived to adulthood also perished in a mighty battle. But her 'mate', her partner for this brief life pursued her. He ran into places not meant for those of mortal spirit and body in pursuit of this 'love' that she was coming to realise she still did not understand. He reached her before her final ascent, pledging and promising and begging even as his flesh and spirit were torn away by the primordial winds of her birthplace. Perhaps her brief period of mortality had a larger effect than she realised as she stopped her ascent to listen to him. But still one of mortal birth such as he would not understand that this was not a death but a return to her origin form. So she turned away to continue, leaving his tattered shreds on the bone platform of her ascension. Even as she continued the rites, something prickled at the back of her mortal mind. A screaming and tearing until any she had felt before. For a reason she did not fully understand, she turned back a final time, just in time to see the fraying thread of his essence snap completely, his being now untethered and adrift in the cutting winds. |

She was too late, he had departed. She knew the meaning of loss. She knew the meaning of regret. The younger were not like her kind. They did not remember themselves after annihilation. Her spirit was created of the safe forces as the world ad thus could not be destroyed by it. His was something new- fresher. He was gone. He was gone. He was gone. Was this love? Was this mortality? She cried to Father. She cried to the Plague, the maker of his kind. But they were gods, they were apathetic and unmoved as she had been. "Why suffer over these short times when you have eternity?" they asked. "Come back to us. Rejoin your brethren in divinity." They could not understand just as she once did not understand. She knew the only solution would be through her own power. But she was of the wind. She knew little of the magics required to bring back souls of the mortal. However, perhaps the mages among the mortals would know... tbc Next part: The Story of how Seaweed and Elvira joined Cloudchaser to bring back the dead, but at a cost |
