Maldred
The silent knight

Maldred was taken in as an adult, unable to find a home due to his unique circumstances. As a non-telepathic mute, he has trouble communicating with most dragons, and has had to learn sign language and writing to speak to others. He changed himself from a mirror to a pearlcatcher, doing it with his own money to prove to his clan once and for all that he is perfectly capable of handling himself. Because of this and other feats, he has earned the respect of the clan, especially those who have known him for some time.

Maldred is a playful soul, often insulting others via signs or engaging others in witty banter. He and Shylock actually get along rather well, even though they often sound like they're hurling nasty insults at each other all the time. Maldred enjoys company, and can't stand being alone, which he often is. Because of his muteness, he was often treated as though he was delicate and protected rather strictly, but has since proven able to take care not only of himself, but others.

Maldred has many irrational fears, bugs ranking high on that list, but has had to conquer them, especially now that his diet includes insects. He has mastered himself well enough to join the Guard, the elite team that General Kahlena assembled from the best warriors in the clan. He is one of the few of these who works as Guard full-time, and his keen eye rarely fails to find mischief afoot, especially since he's prone to making it himself.

His adoration for Selene is obvious, and he was infatuated with her the very first moment he met her. They share quarters though are not official mates, and seem to be content merely hanging around each other and spending time together, taking their time with the relationship's progression.
