NANNY ROSANNE PERMONA
CARETAKER
“Where did I put that again?”

Name meaning: (Hebrew) “Graceful rose.”
Student: N/A
Familiar’s Name: Starria

Better known as Rosa, this Snapper is anything but snappish. A mother and a grandmother, Rosa loves hatchlings and devotes her life to their care and wellbeing, which is why she works as the caretaker of youth in Tangle’s Tribe. Rosa is very satisfied with her job. She had a somewhat difficult life prior to her arrival at the Tribe, and is happy to be accepted. She walks with a limp from an old accident, and is quite forgetful most of the time. She’s a worrywart, but a loving caretaker. Currently, she has no hatchlings under her care.

As a hatchling, Rosa was always upset that she couldn’t fly. She watched with envy the other dragons, circling the air. It looked like such fun. Yet, the breed she was born with was her limit, her ball and chain. Her mother, Hona, tried to show her all the great things about being a Snapper, but Rosa couldn’t be convinced.

She watched, with envy, her Skydancer father and dozens of half-siblings as they soared across the skies, leaving her grounded forever. She couldn’t count the number of times she’d tried to climb a tree, jump off, and fly away to distant horizons... except, she couldn’t quite climb a tree, either.

Slowly, Rosa began to understand and accept her dismal fate, and tried to find something she could do that others couldn’t. And like so, she became a show-off of her physical strength. She enrolled herself in the Snapper Stone Sprint — an exclusive, Snapper-only competition in which Snappers from all over gathered together and pushed ginormous boulders from Point A to Point B as fast as they could. Rosa won first place in the Regional Stone Sprint Tournament (RSST), where she competed against champion Arcane Snappers.

Ecstatic, Rosa went on to compete in the Realm-Wide Stone Sprint Tournament (RWSST), representing the Arcane Flight. The other ten Flight Representatives were also attending, each having qualified in their own respective RSST.

And then, tragedy struck. Rosa pushed her boulder the first few inches, using every last bit of strength she could summon from the deepest depths of her inner self. However, the tournament was held upon an uphill stretch of land. The competitors had all been warned not to let go of their boulders, but Rosa twisted her ankle as she pushed the boulder up, and fell over. The boulder came flying downhill, and Rosa was run over. She sustainecd injuries so terrible that they still pain her to this day.

After being declared an invalid who would never walk again, Rosa began to lose hope. She could no longer see the point in life. However, it was then that she met Hallyrian, a Spiral who could both walk and fly, whilst she could do neither. He was her doctor, and with him, she fell instantly in love. I will walk again, she resolved. I will make him proud! And walk she did. Though it was more of a crawl at first, Rosa was soon able to walk as she had before, except with a limp. Hallyrian was impressed, and ecstatic for the Snapper. The two of them got together, and had four hatchlings, one of whom later had hatchlings of her own. However, Hallyrian was unhappy. Seeking a more purposeful life, he packed up and left to serve the Arcanist.

Upset that Rosa could not join him, for their hatchlings were left with her alone, the Snapper refocused her life, devoting it solely to their care. She grew a fondness for hatchlings, and when her first daughter went on to have her own children, Rosa was a marvelous grandma to them. After all the hatchlings in her bloodline grew up and left, she worked for many months as a caretaker of hatchlings in a public daycare. It proved such a burden, however, for there was a long path she had to trek to get to her place of work. When Rosa decided enough was enough, she was employed by Tangle’s Tribe, and has accepted it as her home for as long as she lives.
