One of the most talented dragons in the clan, Onyx is unfortunately also one of the most uncouth. She can’t really be blamed for all of it, growing up with a twin brother may wear the charm off any dragoness, but Onyx is an extreme case. Few dragons have escaped an encounter with her without a severe tongue lashing, and most can testify to hearing her shout “outa my way!” to anyone within 5 feet of her workshop. Still, for all her faults, her craft is unmatched.

She is the only dragon in the clan skilled in carpentry. Some of the more gullible clan members will attest that Onyx could make a looking glass out of an oaken slab, and they wouldn’t be far off the mark. She can polish, carve, and whittle a piece of wood into almost anything—although a looking glass would be a stretch. Never happier than when she is bent over with her nose nearly touching the piece, Onyx spends most hours in her workshop among the shavings and blocks of her craft.

Although much of the clan’s revenue comes from the sale of armor, herbs, and crafts, it is ever more difficult for Onyx to part with her creations. She simply loathes the thought of an Earth dragon placing his filthy pickaxe on that weapon-rack or her tables vanishing under the scrolls of Light Flight. Still, there are a few dragons brave enough to pry her possessions away from her; Jabberwock is among them.

Among the clan, Onyx has few friends, but those she does have, she holds very dearly. One of her closest friends is Sprocket, possibly because Sprocket is often content to sit in an out-of-the-way corner and watch her work, occasionally asking about a particular technique. Onyx has no fear of Sprocket's truth-seeing ability because as Sprocket can attest, Onyx is usually so focused on her work that it drives out any memories, especially painful ones. Along with Fethryn, Chinthe, and a few others, Onyx is one of the few that is almost completely immune to Sprocket’s gift.

Onyx only has one family member she is close to: her twin brother, Brazen. A metalworker by trade, Brazen visits his sister often enough and they usually rouse an argument to wake the dead. The debate of whether wood or metal is the superior material is a frequent topic between them, and it always escalates quickly. Nonetheless, Onyx cares deeply for her brother, and her familiar, a woodland Turkey named Gobbler, was a gift from him. As was her breastplate, which is made of oiled wood and metal. Her claw casings are of the finest glass and allow her to carve intricate designs in wood without dulling her own claws.

Although some drakes would consider Onyx attractive, most are afraid she may tear them apart for an advance, or worse, accept it. She is perfectly happy without a mate presently, thank you, as she says: “who needs another body getting in the way?” Still, she harbors a soft spot for children, frequently making small toys and knick knacks for the younger members of the clan. The only dragons that have managed to gain her respect are Fethryn, Gem, Elert, and Sprocket, the rest she merely tolerates.
