______ A pearl, to a Pearlcatcher, is truly their life. Every little moment, every joyous memory, and every tragic sorrow - every single thing - is all gathered into one round, crystalline sphere. So what would happen if one were to lose their pearl? Similarly, what would happen to all the pearls that had been left behind, betrayed by a Pearlcatcher who no longer wanted to go down the path they had been traveling?

______ Yami found this out rather quickly. She had always been a curious and adventurous hatchling who was always up for a challenge. Unfortunately for her, after many challenges she had successfully conquered, there was one which tore her life apart. She no longer recalls the details, as most of her life within the Southern Icefield is a distant haze, but it left her with a crushed confidence and even less of a pearl.

______ She knew she couldn't return home. Like the others of her breed with no pearl, instinct had told her that she must live wallowing in the hope that other dragons will aid her in this new, developing life. However, she soon found that it may not be needed. She didn't know how, why, or exactly when, but she found it. A pearl just as prime and shimmery as the one she was sure she used to have. It was a bit darker than her former orb of memories, but some part of her knew that taking this with her was the only way she'd manage an honorable life.

______ She began to carry the new pearl with her, and memories flooded her mind. She had never seen the dragons she found so familiar, nor had she been to the places she should consider home. Despite that, she knew this unfamiliar life within the Ashfall Waste was the one she must live. She wouldn't be the reckless hatchling she once was, and she would become much more watchful of this new treasure the one before her left behind.

______ This was not her life, but she was going to live it.
