Biography
~Ammonite~
The Wanderer
The first thing he remembers is the cold, the feeling of the freezing wind and icy ground as they chilled him to the core. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew, he knew this was wrong. The ice floes were no place for a lone hatchling. Unable to stand or see, the dragon's then-fragile body was wracked by shivers as he desperately called for help, crying out again and again until his throat was raw and his voice hoarse. Soon, he was certain he was going to die. His calls weakened, then stopped entirely as he succumbed to the omniscient cold. The second thing he remembers is the warmth, the feeling of soft fur and gentle touch that brought him back from the brink. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew, he knew he was safe. His stiff limbs began to regain their mobility as he edged closer and closer to the source of the heat. He was no longer as stiff once the comforting sensation spread to his joints, and his claws, already almost black with frostbite, seemed somehow to be recovering, too. Swaddled in an all-encompassing warmth, the shivers ceased and his body began to regain its strength. Soon, he was certain that he was going to survive. His fear lessened, and then faded entirely as he began to see. The third thing he remembers are her eyes, gold like the sun and filled with just as much light. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew, he knew that he was no longer on his own. Her gentle gaze and friendly smile comforted him, and for the first time, he smiled too. Her presence created a new feeling, one that made him feel secure, safe, as though nothing could hurt him. Soon, he was certain that this feeling was hope. For the first time in his life, he felt hope. All remaining traces of despair vanished from his eyes as he looked up at the face of his savior. |
As he grew older, and began to understand speech, he learned that the dragoness' name was Lumina, and that she was a Tundra native to the Lightbringer's domain. She had heard his cries for help, and searched for their source until she found him, cold and abandoned to the elements. Of his parents she found no trace, and there was nothing with him save for the remains of egg from which he had hatched. She was never able to tell him why, but he didn't seem to care. She was his protector, his teacher and friend. It was she who gave him his name- Ammonite, after the spiraled shells that his patterning so resembled. For many seasons they traveled together, happy in each other's company. They remained close, until the day when Lumina felt the pull of her deity's will, calling her away to serve under the shining goddess herself. Ammonite wanted to join her, to go away with her and loyally remain by her side, but Lumina only shook her head. This was her burden to bear, her task to complete, a quest that she must fulfill alone. It took some time, but Ammonite came to understand. He took great comfort in knowing that wherever her path took her, she would live safe and happy. Before Lumina departed, she gifted him with a token, a reminder of the time they'd spent together- her necklace. He promised to always remember her by it, and she smiled at him for the last time. As he watched her wing away into the sky, a creeping loneliness began once again to weigh upon his heart. He touched the necklace, and found comfort in it, but he needed something more. He needed the company of another, someone to call friend. So began his own journey, one to find a place to call home, and a clan to call family. |
