An unhealthy coatl can be identified by fading plumage
Coatl who are naturally born grey or white are regarded as bad omens, and often exiled from nests to protect the rest of the clutch from catching illness or ill luck

Kip was the first egg to hatch in his parents nest, once they saw his bright white scales and feathers his fate was sealed. Taking the chirping and hissing baby out f the nest his father tossed him into the closest river he came by. He was to drown if fate had not had a giant mother xolo passing by with her two young. The slimy creature kissed his lips and with her magic he was able to breath.

Still he was just a baby and so she used more of her magic to try and change him as best she could, he grew gills and webbing between his tiny clawed fingers, f his feathers shriveled and feathered gills replaced them and with all that done she was now satisfied with her odd new child. Up onto her back she placed him in between her own two children.

Since then he's stuck close by his mother and any and all siblings she had. He still sometimes goes onto land but he prefers the cool waters they live in, that and he has trouble speaking his native coatl or dragonic. He can't fly for too long since his wings aren't as strong, he does used the little flying he can do to fly over the river and spot any dangers to his family, his back wings have regrown into a thick strong membrane. Like a bat's wings
