Biography
Luthe and his sister, Hari, make their living with plants. They were born to Nature: Gladekeeper still whispers inside them, faintly, and they learnt as children to grow and nurture the things around them. But Luthe and Hari know more, more than other visitors from Gladekeeper's realm: they know how to speak to plants, and how to listen to the answers.
Hari and Luthe were inseparable as hatchlings, to the point where when another dimension reached into their former lair, it wrapped its fingers around them both and took them on a voyage: exciting, terrifying, strange. In the end it changed them both: isolated them from their clan, yes, but opened their ears to a different song. In learning to survive in the other world, they'd learnt a new language of song; in protecting themselves, they'd become strong.
Luthe speaks to the plants now, secretly and subtly, urging them to grow in new ways neither Earthshaker nor Gladekeeper have seen. Hari hunts the cliffs and the islands, slipping through cracks in the earth and returning with seeds and materials never before seen. They are asked how, and what, and where, but it is too easy to tell Earth that it is from Nature and Nature that it is from Earth; none but the rarest dragons have any idea where they have been.
He and Hari are somewhat of a mystery - but a benign one, a curiosity rather than a threat. They are able to treat most diseases and conditions in the clan because they are immune, and they test potions on themselves that are dangerous to others: but they are also friendly, and kind, and happy to trade their skills as needed within the clan.
And if he and Hari vanish for a day or three, no one knows they have crossed to a solemn and wild world, pulling mushrooms from shade and roots from bushes and tumbling down cliffs for the fastest fish -- and no one minds, and no one asks, as long as they have something new and beautiful. Sometimes the pull is too strong, the Call too loud, and the happy life they have here fades for the song of the wind over oceans and open fields.
But mostly, they make their living with plants, and if the notes of the wind are a bit too much like a song, they don't always need to sing back.
