Biography
ALTAIR AEONMIGHT
The Galactic Knight
Captain of the Day Watch
A powerful dragon hailing from another star, descended from an ancient colony of wyrms who left Sornieth centuries ago. He possessed an unusually vast well of magic even in the egg, and was taken to be trained by a militant order of knights when he was scarcely hatched. Genarog was raised to be the Order of the Radiant Nova's greatest warrior, a weapon in dragon form that would enable them to vanquish all of their enemies. As he grew he did precious little but train; mostly at the order of his superiors, but also because the brash Wildclaw relished in battle and in using his great power.
Once he was fully grown his peers became embroiled in a war against the Order of the Luminous Core, the Nova's long-standing rival. At first Altair's immense might turned the tide in the their favor. But for all his love of combat, Altair loved his freedom also, and he grew up and better understood his position he became resentful of his status as a living weapon. At the deciding battle of the war, seeing that both armies had been depleted, Altair rebelled. He tore across the battlefield, intent only on escaping. Neither order was strong enough to stop him, weakened as they were, and Altair got away.
But word of the war spread quickly even as the proud knight forged his own path across the stars, reveling in his freedom and seeking out new challenges. Rumors uncontrollably grew into legends of a terrible, power-hungry knight who decimated armies single-handedly and thought only of destruction. People became afraid. The angry leaders of the Radiant Nova saw in these rumors as an opportunity, secretly swearing that either they or no one at all would control Altair's power. They gathered many skilled mages and tasked them with stopping the supposedly calamitous warrior. They hunted Altair for several months. Finally, they ambushed him on a remote moon, then used their magic to seal him in crystal and cast his prison into the interstellar void.
He drifted until his seal, attracted by Sornieth's overabundance of magic, streaked through the planet's skies and crashed upon the Starfall Isles. The weakened vessel fell into the hands of unlawful warlocks, and when he was next awoken he had been unleashed upon an unfamiliar battlefield. Confused and threatened, Altair went on the offensive immediately, hoping to get away. But once he'd defeated his captors' enemies, they once bound him in stone. This happened countless times as centuries passed, while the secret of the otherworldly warrior's prison was passed down and stolen. For ages all Altair knew was sudden danger, doomed flights to freedom, and having his escape cruelly denied. Until one day rumor of his current jailers reached the ears of Rasa of the Diabase Demesne, on a rare excursion away from her clan. The warlocks' deeds appalled her, and with her clanmates stole his prison.
Once in Dragonhome, they set about freeing him- for good this time. Although at first suspicious of the first kindness he'd been shown in ages- if ever- Altair was immensely relieved and grateful to be unbound at last, and eventually joined the clan. He makes himself useful as a member of its Day Watch, and attained the rank of captain. He follows a strict- and somewhat alien- code of honor. Currently, he's trying to find ways to use his great store of magic for more peaceful purposes; he's had more than his fill of war, and wants to move beyond that and make something more for himself.
