GREGO

Grego is a clay golem, born in the heart of the Molten Scar to be the personal bodyguard of a great Fire Prophet. He spent centuries doing his duties unthinkingly, every monotonous day bleeding into the next. He simply lived to be a guard, a disposable shield, and he never sought to make himself more.
One day he was leading his charge over an ancient, rickety bridge. His massive weight proved to be too much for the frail ropes, and the bridge broke. His charge, a Skydancer, was able to fly away unscathed. Grego, on the other hand, plummeted hundreds of feet before shattering upon impact with the hard ground below.
His charge never came for him. He laid at the bottom of that ravine for over a year before scavengers found him. They fixed him up as well as they could with the intent to sell him to another high-ranking dragon in need of a body guard, but he did not want to spend centuries in that mindless haze he had been in previously. He made his first decision as his own dragon and ran away.
He found himself, after many months of travelling, on the outskirts of the Tangled Wood. There he saw a brilliantly-colored Gaoler, and their eyes locked. The Gaoler, after introducing himself as Ampora, invited him to stay the night with his clan.
Grego spent much longer than a night.
The wonderful dragons of the Rose Quartz clan took him in, listened to his endless tales, and admired his beautiful clay body. Ampora mended his body as well as he could, and the clan's leader sprang the idea that Grego would make a wonderful planter. Grego liked this idea- to be filled with life that he could protect and nurture on his own terms.
He became the clan's head of defense, not because they made him but because he had finally found something worth defending.
